Which versions?

by the "bom bom bom, ba-bom bom" you mean, of course, THE BO DIDDLEY BEAT! Show Bo the respect he deserves.

"Well old Bo Diddley had a farm"

bom bom bom, ba-bom bomp!

"And on this farm he had some women"

bom bom bom, ba-bom bomp!

"Women here, women there"

bom bom bom, ba-bom bomp!

"Women, women, women everywhere"

bom bom bom, ba-bom bomp!

On "I Want Candy" though - what would you call that little guitar melody that snakes thru the beat? It sounds vaguely.... somethingish!

Ever hear "I'm gonna git your Girlfriend"? Fuckin' CLASSIC! Yeah, buddy!

Betweem two songs in the thread, I'll go with "I Want Candy," opting for the Bow Wow Wow rendition over the Strangeloves' original.

The Bishops did a good version.

And I'll take The Rolling Stones' "Not Fade Away" over Buddy Holly's.

LondonLee (LondonLee), Monday, 2 February 2004 17:31 (twenty-two years ago)

okay i didn't even know Bow Wow Wow and the Stones had COVERED these songs (as in, i thought THEY were the respective authors) - ARE YOU HAPPY OR SAD??

fair play to the Bo tho - but that was r n' b and this was about pop i guess.

Bow Wow Wow's "I Want Candy" without a doubt, and not merely because the opening guitar part is the most "difficult" thing I've ever learned to play. (Ha!)

As for "Not Fade Away", this may be sacrilegious, but my favourite version has always been the first one I'd ever heard: Rush's!

Bo Diddley! But all these songs are completely and absolutely classic, perhaps even irrespective of performer.

Rush covered "Not Fade Away"????? Get OUT of here! Are you serious?????

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 14:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm shuddering at the thought.

LondonLee (LondonLee), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 14:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Where can I hear this????

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Alex, they indeed did cover "Not Fade Away". It was the A-side of their very first release, a self-released 7" that came out before the first, self-titled lp.

This was the B-side:

Moon Records, I love it -- they were AN ORIGINAL INDIE BAND.
