Who wants to rip Starsailor?

I am listening to their new album right now. The first song was nice and all the rest have bled together into one annoying, whiny, blur.

Who doesn't?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 03:02 (twenty-one years ago)

rip them a new arsehole?

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 03:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh no I just heard some bongos. NO!

christhamrin (christhamrin), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 03:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Starsailor gone Madchester would certainly be interesting to hear.

Or not.

Kingfish Funyun (Kingfish), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 03:24 (twenty-one years ago)

They were threatining it, for like a second. Then they started strumming guitars and plinking pianos again. Is there a worse voice in music today? God this guy's bleating is so horrible.

christhamrin (christhamrin), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 03:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Who the fuck is Starsailor?

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 03:34 (twenty-one years ago)

"An indie rock quartet heralded on the release of their debut single, "Fever," in February 2001 as "Britain's best new band," Starsailor has continued the rich lineage of Travis, Coldplay, and others." Simon P Ward

christhamrin (christhamrin), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 03:35 (twenty-one years ago)

How many friggin' "Britain's best new band"s are there? Why aren't there ever any "America's best new band"s?

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 03:40 (twenty-one years ago)

haha the first time i heard "fever" i figured someone was totally taking the piss. what a dirge that song is.

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 03:42 (twenty-one years ago)

True, but the best part of that quote is "the rich lineage of Travis Coldplay and others"

britmusichata (christhamrin), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 03:43 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm sure starsailor were around before coldplay "hit it big", but that might just be my sketchy memory

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 03:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Best band ever. Their beautiful songs are so haunting and beautiful, I can't even begin to describe how fragile and wonderful they are, beautiful also.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 03:51 (twenty-one years ago)

and haunting?

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 03:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes. And fragile and touching.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 03:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Are they melodic as well?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 03:57 (twenty-one years ago)

there's two schools of thought on that

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 03:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Starsailor piss me off, specifically because not only did they nick their name from Tim Buckley but if you look at their logo, they nicked the font and the colour of the type straight off the TB album!
Talk about no imagination......fuckers.

mzui, Tuesday, 3 February 2004 11:10 (twenty-one years ago)

there's a JLC/Thin White Duke remix of Starsailor's new single 'Four To The Floor' - it's not bad

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 11:12 (twenty-one years ago)

adaml in copping off geir's riffs actual shockah!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 11:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Jim - Starsailor hit it big the year after Coldplay did. They just ended up having their thunder stolen by the Strokes.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 11:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, it might surprise you, but I don't agree with AdamL here. Like Stereophonics, Starsailor is one of those bands that I'd be supposed to like, but that I really don't see the fuss about. The songs just don't work out properly, and their singer's "operatic" singing style is terribly annoying too.

That being said, their recent album is considerably better than their debut.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 14:15 (twenty-one years ago)

haha actually adam was ripping off dave q's post on the thin red line thread.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 14:17 (twenty-one years ago)

hehe - i wondered where i had read that before!

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

subtle! The one man street team has already begun its work has it?

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Thursday, 5 February 2004 04:28 (twenty-one years ago)

haha actually adam was ripping off dave q's post on the thin red line thread.

Rumbled! Another reason why I'm not a journalist - plagiarism is too tempting.
