big nurse 'powder to the people' is the
best one i've heard this year; clean, uplifting, nice.
also that ash/jackson 5 one (go home productions ?)
which is like a soulwax one from when they first did them.

there's still a lot of life left in this thing,
i see even KISS tv channel is in on the scene following
Q mix and MTV mash.

boots then. still going strong.

Osy, Freelance, Soulwax, Kurtis, Frenchbloke & Son and Richard X don't do them anymore and haven't for a while which is what makes them all seem like the first wave I guess. Haven't heard from Conway since 'Lisa's Got Hives' sadly but i think Skaatter re-emerged recently. Go Home, IDC, Soundhog, Lionel Vinyl/Fake ID, DJ Payroll and others are still churning them out though - obviously it's become more of an automatic reflex in the last 18 months - everything has to be bootlegged now but it's perenially fun so that's fair enough as far as I am concerned. Of course having finally done a Superchunk I am pretty much ready to retire.

Crazy little thing called love meets Fool on the hill.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 13:31 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah i heard that superchunk but i missed the start.
there was three of you who did it? it was a good one,
and a clever idea too. who was that 50 cent/smiths one by ?
it came just after freelance hellraiser saying
'...put a big smile on your face' or something.

piscesboy, Tuesday, 3 February 2004 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

i have to say i love the IDC stuff. the glitterati/madonna/klf malarkey was a riot of fun. off to see what their latest one is like Danni Min vs Garbage ..

mark e (mark e), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

pisces i think you mean Sean Paul v The Smiths, knocked up by boom's mky that one

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 16:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Steve, you did a Superchunk??? and it's online where, precisely? Sean Paul vs the Smiths, regardless of which tracks by whom, would go down very well at the party I'm playing at on Saturday...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 16:11 (twenty-two years ago)

steve, did you get round to doing the one I worked out?

chris (chris), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 16:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Steve, can you recommend any Freelance Hellraiser tracks which are non-bootlegs? I got "Intro (Ballad Of A Hellraiser)" off your site and I wuv it. Plus I watched "Contact" the other night and amazed my housemate by being able to predict what they were going to say next.

Nick H (Nick H), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 16:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Ste-eve, Steeeeeeeevvvveeeee...

Barima (Barima), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 16:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Have you heard the history of the mash up mega mix? 20 minutes of genius. Raiding the 20th Century, by DJ Food's Strictly Kev. over at
http://www.boomselection.info/. 18th Jan entry. It will blow you away.

garret (garret), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 17:25 (twenty-two years ago)

It's not there anymore - it is an official BANDWIDTH DECIMATOR

will upload the Boom superchunk very soon tho

chris i keep forgetting your suggestion - remind me again!

ha ha Nick H, non-bootleg Hellraiser tracks? there are a few including one called 'Roll Out The Money' but i've had trouble locating that. you do have his LEGIT remixes for Aguilera (not bad), Gomez (also not bad) and Placebo (best one imo) amonst others at least.

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 18:03 (twenty-two years ago)

as i hinted at on the latest Ratpure hate thread - Erol Alkan's rework of Wink with HSOJ dropped over the top has been doing it for me lately

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 18:05 (twenty-two years ago)

cos I got it like that and the weatherall mix of soon - the bass line is almost exactly the same, and would fit nice methinks

chris (chris), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 22:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Erol Alkan's rework of Wink with HSOJ dropped over the top

Achem, I can download this where again?

Xii (Xii), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 21:01 (twenty-two years ago)

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 21:07 (twenty-two years ago)

hey steve is that skkatter guy any good?
he's on ie-dance (irish equivalent of uk-dance) all the time and plays in dublin a fair bit
don't think ive ever heard anything by him though

robin (robin), Thursday, 5 February 2004 03:42 (twenty-two years ago)

The best mash-up I've EVER heard is an Aussie one that combines an old English rag-time piano number (I think it might be called the Brittanica Rag or something) with the acapella from 'Bring The Noise'. Anyone know anything about it?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 5 February 2004 03:46 (twenty-two years ago)

best one i heard last year was 'gimme shelter' with the vox from shannon's 'let the music play' - sheer fuckin genius. and bjork's 'hidden place' vox with 'a forest'. sick sick sick. need new ones tho!

heywood jablomi (heywood), Thursday, 5 February 2004 08:18 (twenty-two years ago)

17 minutes of madness

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 5 February 2004 12:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Soulwax -> It's the FUCKING DEWAELE BROS! (But qualitatively speaking they are indeed interchangeable. hah!)

Has anyone heard the Jack Trevorson bootleg? I'm going to receive a copy. YAY!

nathalie (nathalie), Thursday, 5 February 2004 12:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Anyone heard the 'get ur teen spirit on' mashup? It's actually good, but it seems like a genre endpoint. Mashup will eat itself

sym (shmuel), Thursday, 5 February 2004 12:11 (twenty-two years ago)

(If I'm not mistaken the frigging DeWaele Bros can still be hear *bootying* it up on Studio Brussel radio (which has a website).

nathalie (nathalie), Thursday, 5 February 2004 12:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Skkaatter is brilliant - the only place I've really heard him is on some V/VM compilations, but don't let that put you off - it's actually quite dancefloor-orientated. In fact, there's an MP3 right here.

Jason J, Thursday, 5 February 2004 12:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Nathalie, I think only 2 other ilXors care about the Jack Treverson/Shame 69 bootleg (if that's what ya mean). One'a dem's me to clarify.

Barima (Barima), Thursday, 5 February 2004 18:52 (twenty-two years ago)

haven't heard it i don't think - what the dilly?

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 5 February 2004 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Uh, I dunno, it is a spoof on Losing My Edge ('I was there when Garry Glitter downloaded his first porn" or something). It's featured in the Face magazine.

nathalie (nathalie), Thursday, 5 February 2004 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I have it. It's funny. That's about it.
The other side is a Negativeland track.

Debord (Debord), Thursday, 5 February 2004 19:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Stevem, you ever get an mp3 sorted of that Sean Paul vs Smiths boot? I've been burning cruddy one min loops of it for people because it's so so fine.

Favourite bootleg I've heard recently is:
Ms Jade vs Human League - Don't you want my big head
The original Ms Jade one is pap but this boot is fabulous.

Others I like, not sure how old they are:
Lil' Louis vs George Kranz - French Kiss (Ben Liebrand Mix)
Blow Up Doll - Sex On Cocaine
The Digital Punkz - Twin Beauty
Whodini vs. Westbam - Haunted House of Rock
SleazyBoy - Crying Gay (Homophobic Mix)
(some of those are pretty old I think, but still about 19 steps ahead of the common boot herd)

Speaking of the post-mash acts like Skkatter, I like what Dsico does to J-lo and SEB.

Ian SPACK is sharing all these on Ssk if you want any.

Affectian (Affectian), Thursday, 5 February 2004 20:34 (twenty-two years ago)

No Mark, it's definitely Chuck D - can anyone help out?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 5 February 2004 20:36 (twenty-two years ago)

three months pass...
new uns?

piscesboy, Thursday, 20 May 2004 12:23 (twenty-one years ago)

after realising i didn't have an mp3 of 'Let Me Be Your Fantasy' i went hunting and found not only that but the acapella and a mash-up of it and Stereophonics 'Mr Writer' music which was not as bad as you might think (esp. for some nice effects on the Phonics nagging backing vocals) tho still very odd. not sure who it's by or when it dates from.

the 'trouble' is that every major hit out there now gets mashed up more than once - i can't keep track and my interest has waned naturally tho i will always enjoy hearing a good one. i am itching to make a few new ones (including ones discussed a long time ago that never happened e.g. 'Intergalactic' vs 'Close To The Edit' and 'No Scrubs' vs 'LK')

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 20 May 2004 12:28 (twenty-one years ago)

i like this one for obvious reasons : http://homepage.ntlworld.com/johnmduck/This_Is_Crush_Collision_(Diversion_1&2).mp3

mark e (mark e), Thursday, 20 May 2004 12:37 (twenty-one years ago)

intergalactic/close to the edit,
now i'll buy that for a dollar.

actually just about any vocal over that industrial pop
'chink chink chink BAM BAM BAM (engine growl)' opening
minute or so would get me goin.

piscesboy, Thursday, 20 May 2004 12:50 (twenty-one years ago)

stevem - it's by Ultra396

don (don), Thursday, 20 May 2004 12:52 (twenty-one years ago)

cheers don

(piscesboy - yeh that's the thing, so much goes with it, and i don't think i can actually stand hearing 'intergalactic' in any form anymore anyway but oh well...)

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 20 May 2004 14:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I enjoyed Falco Vs. Usher.

JoB (JoB), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

JoB: thanx for the hookup

24 hours with the King of Snake. (SNAKE!) (ex machina), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:51 (twenty-one years ago)
