the last page of the december issue of xxl, picture of 50 cent: whatever it said, '2003 was his year, who's got next?' i want you to know that lil flip will rule the world from this spring until whenever he stops. he's not going to sell a million out the gate like 50 but he's going to be selling a lot of records.

it's out probably next month. he's already had to re-do it a few times. a bunch of leaked songs already are circulating already. the first single is out.

so, we aren't ready to start quite yet, but we're prepared.

in a month, maybe a month and a half, maybe two, this thread will be overrun with "oh my god, he's re-invented music" and "this is the doggystyle for the new decade" and "flip if you ever in tuscaloosa holla at your girl."

HUGGY BEAR AWARD
Lil Flip has starred on so many albums this year I hope it continues in 2004. Flips brings a shy, cool excitment to songs that we haven't heard since Snoop used to have it like that. We will soon find ourselves buying albums just because Flip kicked a verse on some single or obscure song.
(from murder dog-- even they're smitten)

cloverlandthug, Tuesday, 3 February 2004 20:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I AGREE WIT U

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 21:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Thomas Tallis (Tommy), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 21:42 (twenty-two years ago)

no, of course not.

(and I luv li'l Flip)

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 01:59 (twenty-two years ago)

You're nuts.

Colin Beckett (Colin Beckett), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 02:01 (twenty-two years ago)

John, not Cloverlandthug.

Colin Beckett (Colin Beckett), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 02:02 (twenty-two years ago)

one good line: "I'ma be with David Banner/a thug-ass nigga wit' bad table manners"

short of that, completely sub-par

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 02:05 (twenty-two years ago)

What about "Me, I'm a Pimp/I aint paying for no sex/Man I'd rather buy a car/Or a new rolex"?

Colin Beckett (Colin Beckett), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 02:07 (twenty-two years ago)

not very good at all!

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 02:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I mean you gotta understand, I really love Li'l Flip a lot! so I got Mississippi and I looked at the track listing and I was like "hot damn, Li'l Flip's on this song!" but it's completely generic pimp boasting that Snoop Dogg could do in his sleep, handcuffed, with a sock stuffed in his mouth and still rock the mic harder.

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 02:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm still kind of on the fence about Flip, but his freestyle w/ Cam on the new Diplomats mixtape is pretty great.

Al (sitcom), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 02:13 (twenty-two years ago)

hot damn, Li'l Flip's on this song!"

And you won't believe who else!!

it's completely generic pimp boasting that Snoop Dogg could do in his sleep, handcuffed, with a sock stuffed in his mouth and still rock the mic harder.

I guess it's nothing amazing lyrically, but, to me, his flow (esp. on the line I quoted), works so well with that beat.

Colin Beckett (Colin Beckett), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 02:23 (twenty-two years ago)

that verse gets stuck in my head every time i hear it. 'now don't you hate them ol' --- lyin-ass hoes, smilin in your face wearin her best friend's clothes / i SUPPOSE they like the way me and banner pimp, you can catch us at pappadeaux eatin steak and shrimp.'

he can make anything work. he has a unique style. reading a lil flip verse, you can hear it perfectly in your head, where the pauses would go and the little parenthetical what??s and self-satisfied chuckles.

he is kind of like cam'ron, in the sort of elementary rhymes and all that. except he has "shy, cool excitment" and he's better in every way.

cloverlandthug, Wednesday, 4 February 2004 04:35 (twenty-two years ago)

http://undergroundsoundz.com/images/superball.jpg

!!! but the tracklist says it's all just the old pre-album mixtape stuff and three or four new freestyles.

cloverlandthug, Wednesday, 4 February 2004 04:38 (twenty-two years ago)

http://www.undergroundsoundz.com/images/flipchains2.jpg

you know i'm iced out, lookin like a wedding cake
i hear niggas whisperin, 'man, i bet it's fake'

cloverlandthug, Wednesday, 4 February 2004 04:50 (twenty-two years ago)

it looks like he's lost the weight he'd put on circa the "Like A Pimp" and "Ridin' Spinners" videos. he was almost Big Flip for a while there.

Al (sitcom), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 05:05 (twenty-two years ago)

come ON! This is the way we ball has by FAR the best fucking Flip verse!

"Dat ain't platinum, Dats a silvery chain."

djdee2005, Wednesday, 4 February 2004 05:17 (twenty-two years ago)

but i was only ranking guest verses.

brand new very mediocre mixtape with a bunch of flows over beats from a year ago and four tracks with c-bo. baby d's on it, young buck. the we built this city flow is nice.

THIRTY NINE DAYS UNTIL U GOTTA FEEL ME.

_______, Friday, 13 February 2004 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

he's calling it game over now.

AllHipHop: What's the deal with your new album, Game Over? what can people expect?

Lil Flip: It's more energy in this album. I did some more stuff. I got A list producers on this album. The first album went platinum and I did set out to do that. I did that without A list producers. I got Cam'ron on the album on a track called "All I Know," I got Ludacris on the first track called "I Came to Bring the Pain." Pharell did a track and he did a hook for me. I got two Red Spyda joints.

Lil Flip: Making Moves

William Wiggins, Friday, 20 February 2004 21:33 (twenty-two years ago)

and the release has been pushed back a week. so THIRTY NINE DAYS UNTIL GAME OVER.

William Wiggins, Friday, 20 February 2004 21:33 (twenty-two years ago)

AllHipHop: A lot of cats from up here at least see y'all sipping syrup (liquor and cough medicine). What's that all about? Do you still sip?

Lil Flip: Nah, that's something we use to do. After Screw passed (from sippin) people kind of chilled on that. We aren't with that taking pills and all that sh*t down there. Actually the old folks started it, they drink it straight. Cats in Philly do that now.

AllHipHop: Yeah cats say Beanie, not to call him out.

Lil Flip: Actually him and me was going to do a track together called 'Purple Rain' on his album, but some kind of way I didn't get to go to New York and do it.

William Wiggins, Friday, 20 February 2004 21:39 (twenty-two years ago)

SUPASLY, Wednesday, 17 March 2004 20:04 (twenty-one years ago)

real googlers only, please.

William Wiggins, Wednesday, 17 March 2004 20:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I heard Game Over on the radio last nite...William, does it have a bunch of old-school Atari-age sound efx and some deep squelchy bass synth stuff? I'm pretty sure they were saying game over in the hook....Great song! wow mind-blowing production (although it appeals greatly to my video game geekness so I'm prob. kinda biased towards it but still it's awesome!)

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 20:08 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, that sounds like it. it is pretty good!

have you heard mac man by beanie sigel? you will like it. it's got pac man sound effects and references to old video games! (and if you kazaa for 'pac man beat' you can hear a rip-off of that beat screwed and chopped and used by various houston rappers [originally by mike jones on final chapter 2k3, i think]).

William Wiggins, Wednesday, 17 March 2004 20:19 (twenty-one years ago)

i just downloaded a slim thug freestyle that uses that exact mac man beat but the mike jones beat on final chapter 2k3 uses only pac man noises and sounds way cooler.

William Wiggins, Wednesday, 17 March 2004 20:22 (twenty-one years ago)

have you heard mac man by beanie sigel? you will like it. it's got pac man sound effects and references to old video games!

Yes! I remember reading about that song (it's off his 1st album right?)....then I didn't get the album, and I havea bad habit of forgettign about things if I don't get them when they first come out....I will investigate.

I liked Lil Flip's verses and flow as well....I'm no big afficianado of the new southern rap stuff, and I didn't really like him that much on LIke a Pimp or a few of the other little cameos I've heard (can't remember the names)....But I liked his flow on this....

I work on a Mac, and I cant' really download : (

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 20:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't believe ya'll forgot to mention Lil Flips verse on
"Make Yo Cash" Tomi Gran ft/ Lil Flip! and on
"Bigdicballa!" Tomi Gran ft/ Lil Flip

kendrick, Saturday, 20 March 2004 00:37 (twenty-one years ago)

i've never heard of tomi gran! who is he?

William Wiggins, Saturday, 20 March 2004 00:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Man fuck u bitch u have nothin better in ur life to do then that get a fukin life dickhead

Bobby G., Sunday, 28 March 2004 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Um could someone get that shit out of this thread thanks.

djdee2005, Sunday, 28 March 2004 21:07 (twenty-one years ago)

i think everyone here should be getting a life...especially you lil flip dickriders...good to see some haters calling you unemployed lil flip lovers out.

why don't you ask lil flip to marry you, william wiggins? i mean your asking him to give you a shout out on BET?!! you're no one...

now i like lil flip quite a bit and was googling to find the new album's track listings and previews, but i came across this page instead. this is very very entertaining...i'm sure all of you have ditched work or school or whatever you losers do during the day, to beat off to his album...prosperous lives you all lead...only person with their head straight is mo money for ruining everyone's day and 'devoted' thread..HA!

Pie Flipper, Tuesday, 30 March 2004 18:08 (twenty-one years ago)

so how's the album?? i guess it comes out today right?

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 18:12 (twenty-one years ago)

you're right, i did ditch everything today so i could beat off to this album.

adam west (adamwest), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 19:39 (twenty-one years ago)

sounds like you've got your priorities in order....also PIE FLIPPA QUIT HATIN'!

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 19:48 (twenty-one years ago)

i mean it is called 'u gotta feel me'.

adam west (adamwest), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 19:49 (twenty-one years ago)

*cough*

For anyone that is interested in the album - It's really very boring, I've decided. just my two cents. (Sorry, WW)

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 19:51 (twenty-one years ago)

There are certianly some nice tracks on there, but for over 90 mins worth of music? Does anyone know what the singles are going to be? because I don't exactly hear any "hits".

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 19:52 (twenty-one years ago)

the track with david banner and three 6 mafia on it is going to be a hit, i think.

adam west (adamwest), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 20:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Hip hop album in being too long non-shocker

ky, Tuesday, 30 March 2004 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Twice as long as it needs to be but the hot tracks are indeed hot. "Ain't No [Party] [Nigga]" are both good and "The Ghetto" is very catchy despite the Just Blaziness of it all.

adam (adam), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 20:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't really hear the "just Blaziness" of "The Ghetto" (nor am I sure why that would be a criticism) but this album is uneven yet wonderful. "Ain't No Nigga" is fucking awesome.

djdee2005, Tuesday, 30 March 2004 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

yo does anyone know when the "u gotta feel me" hits stores in canada lol..

thaminn, Wednesday, 31 March 2004 03:05 (twenty-one years ago)

"Aint no n!99a" is real hot so is "represent" and we "aint playin" "I came to bring the pain" that cd is amazing i love it and i have no idea when it hits in canada maybe its in stores now research or something

Bobby G, Wednesday, 31 March 2004 13:50 (twenty-one years ago)

"they told me i can't talk about ice no more"-- that's definitely a problem. he's so serious on his albums. i only counted one positive reference to a specific car and it was just a throwaway maybach line.

represent is the track i keep having to hear. it's an amazing beat and everyone comes hard and the color changing click gets love. flip does this little double trail-off thing at the end of each of his lines at the end of his first verse and it sounds really tight and springy. his background interjections where he asks himself questions or encourages himself are one of my favorite things. his flow is still so imaginative.

William Wiggins, Wednesday, 31 March 2004 19:27 (twenty-one years ago)

the 'too long' thing doesn't make sense! the main disc is only eleven tracks. you don't have to listen to both discs after the other every time.

William Wiggins, Wednesday, 31 March 2004 19:33 (twenty-one years ago)

the screwed dem boyz remix is incredible. it makes it into a slow eastern react-sounding thing with the same bollywood vocal sample thing at the start and all through it.

William Wiggins, Wednesday, 31 March 2004 19:42 (twenty-one years ago)

For Real! The Ghetto really sounds like a just blaze beat. And it have the same sample like the dipset anthem, that kinda " oooooh.." n'I'm Sayin!!
Please Can Somebody Help which Track Is That Neptunes track, I really don't hear through the sound. That's Cool but I Wanny Know.
And let's be for real. I Hate dem boyz screwed, it fucks me real up, dawg. I really listen to screwed up shit. But I won't listen to it after ten cups of some syrup ya know?

Jay Bubba, Thursday, 1 April 2004 18:43 (twenty-one years ago)

If there's a Neptunes track, it isn't credited as such. I don't recall hearing a track that sounded much like them.

Andy K (Andy K), Thursday, 1 April 2004 18:53 (twenty-one years ago)

there isnt one because i have the cover and if u look inside it tells u who produced what and there isnt neptunes anywhere but the GHETTO song sounds like a just blaze beat cause its done by heatmakerz they do all rocafella and diplomats beats

Rollin on 20's and Flip's verse in Rock N' Roll are vicious! He is better at freestyling then writing whole songs but Rollin on 20's is off da chain when he comes in and is like Here We go welcome 2 my world nigga! its jus ill afta that.

LIKE KILLER MIKE ALL I DO IS DREAM ABOUT SEX BUT WHEN I WAKE UP I HAVE A DREAM ABOUT A CHECK!

LonghornsOfTexas, Thursday, 15 April 2004 03:39 (twenty-one years ago)

kelefa sanneh on u gotta feel me

i was lying in bed wondering if i agreed with this review tonight before i got up and stopped trying to sleep. it did feel like a mixtape to me too but maybe mostly because most of the time when i'm hearing him it's on mixtapes. if i wanted a new flip album i could just hit slsk and type in lil flip and grab whatever flip tape i haven't heard yet.

i feel bad saying something like "oh, he's much better on the mixtapes" but it's true. he works better without limits maybe. i don't get the "sounds as if he could go for hours" feeling from u gotta feel me, i get it from the mixtapes, where it feels like he is going for hours without stopping. and he can say whatever he wants and rap about cars. and he doesn't have to worry about buying beats or getting david banner on a song.

i'm glad that everyone's loving flip right now. even really corny rap nerds and stuff. and he's selling a lot of records.

i think there must be a new video now but i haven't seen it. he said he was going to shoot a follow-up to game over (i think bounce is the obvious choice) and shoot two more with his own money. he said this on 106&park. free said, "we've got a true hustler in the house." he gave her a mini cloverleaf piece, too.

saneh was off the money about the "spouting nonsense" bit or whatever.

like flip's lyrics aren't THAT hard to decipher! and the "funny" line he quoted was like not funny at all by flip standards.

Despite that, I think Sennah had some great insights on this album - and I think he's dead-on about it having a mixtape-feel to it.

one month passes...
I've only listened to the first disc the whole way through so far but I really enjoyed it. The way the beat switches up for Luda's verse at the end of "I Came To Bring The Pain" is amazing, chills-up-my-spine stuff.

Also really like "Dem Boyz", looking forward to hearing the screwed version. Surprised that the screwed version of "Game Over" isn't on there as well.

the track with three six and banner is magic, as is the closing banner track.

also as far as car specific refs, the closer on the first album with the impalas and woman who cooks shrimp & spaghetti is brilliant.

I still can't love this album no matter how much I try. I wanted it to be everything promised in cloverlandthug's initial post (and mr thug, I don't fault/doubt your enthusiasm). please recommend me some other Flip so that I can finally embrace him.

'Undaground Legend' is pretty good, has my favourite Banner beat (samples Edward Scissorhands music), the RIP Dj Screw song that uses the Dear Mama beat, I Can Do That remix ft. Juvenile, The Way We Ball, lots of light, fluttery electro beats, lyrics about candy paint and his platinum plaque etcetc. Minus the "boring" east coast style songs on 'U Gotta Feel Me' it's not much different.

Or you could pick up one of his underground freestyle tapes, the only one i've got is 'Platinum Now' which has the classic 'Today Was A Good Day' freestyle, but they're pretty much all the same really.

You might also want to cop some later DJ Screw tapes to hear some awe inspiring freestyling, specifically the first track on 'Southside Still Holding', where he flows non stop for about 10 minutes over the Wanna Be A Baller Beat.

I guess the main difference between 'U Gotta Feel Me' Flip and 'Undaground Legend' Flip lyrically is the player -> gangster transition. He seems alot more thuggish recently, whereas he used to be more about the ice grills and in-car DVD players.
