Elastica RIP

I remember a review of Elastica's 1st album, proclaiming it one of those LPs that you'll abuse in the best possible fashion, forget about for a few years, and return to in a pique of nostalgia. Wouldn't you know, that happened to me just a few weeks ago - granted, I repurchased it, so that might be why. It sounds OK. If anything, I can thank them for getting me into Wire & other like- minded folk.

And it's New Wave of New Wave, damn it, NOT Britpop.

I would actually become a Peaches-head and follow her around on tour if this happened.

And then, one morning.....

We'll see what happens. I'd be interested in new recordings. A reunion tour, less so.

Several years ago, before twitter became what it is now, there was a prompt about one-album bands and someone listed the 1995 Elastica album.

I pointed out there was indeed a second Elastica album.

"Not canon" was their response. lol

A reunion tour would be great if they played half The Menace

and The Bitch Don’t Work

Thanks Camaraderie for your re-thought 2nd Elastica LP (although, I'm also one of those that prefer 'My 'Menace' to include 'Image Change' --- actually, despite all the reasons why I probably shouldn't, I greatly prefer 'The Menace' to Elastica's debut. It's sleazier, spacier, and (despite 'borrowing' just as much from old punk classics) puts those borrowings to more original use than the first album. However, I also prefer Kenickie's 2 major label LPs to Elasticas 2 LPs, it's not even a close call for me. (Thanks to ILM for bringing Kenickie to my attention in the first place --- they made absolutely zero impression in the USA during their brief lifespan.( (And since we don't have to see/hear the post-Kenickie Lauren Laverne on the radio/TV over day and night over here, she remains to my ears frozen in time as simply a superb songwriter, singer, and guitarist in a band whose other members were also quite talented, even though Laverne's frontperson status gave them less room to prove themzelves.)
