Elastica have split up details on NME.com.

Good riddance to mouldy old Britpop or a sad loss of a cool, spiky band?

only indifference

after 5ive split it was only natural :-)

Better late than never? Since Justine became one of Peaches' stage dancers, it was only a matter of time. Uh, wha...

I remember a review of Elastica's 1st album, proclaiming it one of those LPs that you'll abuse in the best possible fashion, forget about for a few years, and return to in a pique of nostalgia. Wouldn't you know, that happened to me just a few weeks ago - granted, I repurchased it, so that might be why. It sounds OK. If anything, I can thank them for getting me into Wire & other like- minded folk.

And it's New Wave of New Wave, damn it, NOT Britpop.

Think of a number, Dave, and divide it by two. ;-)

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 3 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

arguably Elastica were perfect pop purveyors - brilliant in their time and place, totally irrelevant ten minutes later.

Yeah, and I am the fly, I am the fly, I am the fly, I am the fly, fly in the, fly in the OINT MENT-ah.

They would have been fine if the songs on the next album, rather than what they were, were twice as short, twice as loudd, and had half as many chords.

Sterling Clover, Wednesday, 3 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Brilliant first album. Crap-but-fun follow-up. I liked 'em.

Dr. C, Wednesday, 3 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think the difference between me and Dave here is that I was already well INTO Wire. The couple of times on that first album that Elastica sounded like they were trying to do something with the influences were what made me happiest.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 3 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Great first LP, more fun than Wire.

Sean, Wednesday, 3 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Since Justine became one of Peaches' stage dancers

I would actually become a Peaches-head and follow her around on tour if this happened.

Nitsuh, Wednesday, 3 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned, would you stop interrupting my train of thought with lines of longitude & latitude? (And now I shall stop being geeky.) (Oh, but is it too late to change my mind?)

David Raposa, Wednesday, 3 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Remember Select putting them on the cover with ridiculous 'This is the Future' slogo? Did everyone who hadn't already heard Wire a service, otherwise pointless.

stevo, Wednesday, 3 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I 3/4 agree with Dr.C - first album good, but the second was crap and NOT fun. I suppose that's what happens if you can't be bothered to record anything for 5 years.
