Because he ruins an otherwise good album. Because he's a clown. Because he's a fucking waste of space. Let's kill him.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 23:00 (twenty-two years ago)

erm?

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 23:04 (twenty-two years ago)

haha, this is exactly what i'm talking about on the most recent rapture thread.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 23:06 (twenty-two years ago)

oh. he's having fun on tour in europe and you're... i'm sorry, what are you doing?

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 23:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I have decided that I hate the Rapture album more than anything released last year, find it as annoying as anything I have ever heard in my life, and it's one man's fault. It's like a great party, except for the asshole with the lampshade on his head. You can't ignore him.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 23:07 (twenty-two years ago)

wow.

hstencil, Wednesday, 4 February 2004 23:08 (twenty-two years ago)

kenan, what's your least favorite "luke" song?

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 23:09 (twenty-two years ago)

There are so many more far-deserving than poor, hapless, vocally-challenged Mr. Jenner.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 23:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Is it as annoying as someone blowing dislike of an album way out of proportion?

dean! (deangulberry), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 23:09 (twenty-two years ago)

But it's not out of proportion for me! I want to like taht album, I TRY to like that album, someone outs on that album and I DO like it, and then the singing starts, and I am frustrated to the point of blue balls. It was SO CLOSE!

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 23:13 (twenty-two years ago)

i know where he lives...

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 23:14 (twenty-two years ago)

(Disclaimer: I don't really want him dead. Especially if someone knows where he lives. If he lives somewhere, that means he's a person, and I don't want to kill actual people.)

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 23:15 (twenty-two years ago)

congrats, cutty, you've managed to make this thread even creepier than before!

hstencil, Wednesday, 4 February 2004 23:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd rather give him a very serious haircut.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 23:16 (twenty-two years ago)

kenan, what's your least favorite "luke" song?

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 23:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, that first track on Echoes where he does the Robert Smith "impression"... that one sticks in my craw pretty good.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 23:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I played House of Jealous Lovers at that "future" party I DJed. Christ, I've never seen anything clear a floor like that.

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 23:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I like what Xgau said about how he's obviously having fun pretending to be mopey; that pretty well sums up what I like about LJ's singing.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 23:20 (twenty-two years ago)

But it's a bit like ironic dancing, isn't it?

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 23:22 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, it's all in your head

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 23:22 (twenty-two years ago)

alternately, real mopes are fucking BORING

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 23:23 (twenty-two years ago)

what kind of human being leaves the dancefloor when "House of Jealous Lovers" comes on?

The Good Dr. Bill (Andrew Unterberger), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 23:24 (twenty-two years ago)

One who doesn't like dancing.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 23:26 (twenty-two years ago)

to crap

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 23:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw the Rapture on the following bill

Garnier, DJ Sneak, Jeff Mills, Derrick Carter, A Guy Called Gerald, LFO, Deep Dish, Gilles Peterson.

They were the best act I reckon, except for MAYBE Sneak/Carter's 6 hour back to back thing and I'm completely a dance person. So I'm quite defensive about them.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 23:28 (twenty-two years ago)

better than Mills or Sneak/Carter?! wow!

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 23:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Not better than Sneak/Carter I guess (which was truly amazing, the two of them high fiving each other and changing over after each 3 records, then ending with a boompty version of Jaguar!), but in a sweaty warehouse in Manchester (place where the hacienda scenes in 24 hour party people were done), it was close to the best half hour of all my clubbing last year. I guess stuff which is the very very best reaches a level where you can't arrange it 1, 2, 3, 4, but suffice to say it was amazing. It was so hot and sweaty and crazy people were taking off their t-shirts, rinsing them, and putting them back on.

EW.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 23:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I played House of Jealous Lovers at almost every party I DJed at in 2002 and 2003. Christ, I've never seen anything fill a floor like that.

stirmonster, Wednesday, 4 February 2004 23:57 (twenty-two years ago)

dude, open up your heart.

I've actually killed Luke Jenner...with my DJ skills.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 23:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I am totally glad that proper famous house DJs do the swap-over-after-a-couple-of-records thing!

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Thursday, 5 February 2004 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Is it hate on the Rapture week or something? What's with the sudden influx of threads on how "awful" this band is?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 5 February 2004 00:04 (twenty-two years ago)

for real, you guys missed the backlash deadline by a good margin.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Thursday, 5 February 2004 00:07 (twenty-two years ago)

We can lock them until after Pazz and Jop, if you like.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Thursday, 5 February 2004 00:12 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, the minute I typed that I thought "this is gonna make me look like the biggest hipster asshole on the planet."

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Thursday, 5 February 2004 00:20 (twenty-two years ago)

"It was so hot and sweaty and crazy people were taking off their t-shirts, rinsing them, and putting them back on."

I wish/hope people would do this at Rapture shows in the states.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 5 February 2004 00:23 (twenty-two years ago)

they used to

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 5 February 2004 00:29 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah there is a big audience problem i think. no matter how much ppl cheer dance-rock, indie and dance spaces/crowds are on different planets, at least in my (second tier midsize city) experience

g--ff (gcannon), Thursday, 5 February 2004 00:31 (twenty-two years ago)

oh and kenan yr nuts

g--ff (gcannon), Thursday, 5 February 2004 00:31 (twenty-two years ago)

That may be true, but is unrelated to my distaste for the Rapture.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Thursday, 5 February 2004 00:36 (twenty-two years ago)

g--ff otm also I guess, in that a whole load of people left the room when they came on at that warehouse thing. idiots.

Tom, yes they do swap over! I think 3 records each is a fairly established practice!

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 5 February 2004 14:35 (twenty-two years ago)

the more i think abt this the more ass backwards it gets. as this record ages on me the voice(S) may be the most salvageable thing about it.

g--ff (gcannon), Thursday, 5 February 2004 14:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I used to hate it, too, but I've come to like it. The key for me is skipping "Open Up Your Heart" EVERY TIME.

The Mighty Chickadee, Thursday, 5 February 2004 14:58 (twenty-two years ago)
