I just found the coolest 1985 photo gallery.
On October 10 & 11 1985, the Pandora's Music Box festival was held in De Doelen, a venue in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
The Woodentops, The Triffids, Shock Headed Peters, Jeffrey Lee Pierce, Nico, John Martyn, The Legendary Stardust Cowboy, The Legendary Pink Dots, Chris Isaak, Green On Red, Einstürzende Neubauten, Crime & The City Solution, Rain Parade, Sonic Youth, Claw Boys Claw, The Long Ryders, Fatal Flowers, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Cult, L'Attentat, Anne Clark, Alex Chilton, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Butthole Surfers.
But the thing is, everyone who attended was required to have their photo taken. These pics were lost for a while but have been found. Some of them:

First year-end I ever compiled for publication:

Nothing really makes me cringe on there, but, as you can see from the '86 list--where I'm just starting to make the transition back with my #2--I was completely disengaged from the charts and pop music. (Those old Chess albums were reissued in '85.)
At work right now, but I might try to put together a revised list later tonight.

The 61-year-old not all that different from the 25-year-old.
1. "Take the Skinheads Bowling," Camper Van Beethoven2. "Bonzo Goes to Bitburg," Ramones"3. "Books About UFOs," Husker Du4. "Safety Net," Shop Assistants5. "P.S.K. What Does It Mean?" Schoolly D6. "Cloudbusting," Kate Bush7. "Never Understand," Jesus & Mary Chain8. "West End Girls," Pet Shop Boys9. "Raspberry Beret," Prince10. "Death of the European," Three Johns
I also really love Simply Red's "Holding Back the Years," but I don't want to admit that, so I'm massaging my list and booting them out.

your 4 - 10 could easily be in my hypothetical top 10. i generally find these impossible to do but there is a very high chance "P.S.K. What Does It Mean?" Schoolly D would be my no. 1.

"P.S.K." still sounds amazing and unique and scary to me.

I like "Holding Back the Years"! Thanks to its American release date, I'd include it in my 1986 list.
