Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 6 February 2004 00:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I hope it's up by the time I get home. I've been trying to DL this one Six Feet Under episode for about a week and a half now.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 6 February 2004 00:50 (twenty-two years ago)

bittorrent is better for tv shows in general, try there...

it's still not up for me!

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Friday, 6 February 2004 00:54 (twenty-two years ago)

here's the server status link:

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Friday, 6 February 2004 01:22 (twenty-two years ago)

teeny (teeny), Friday, 6 February 2004 01:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Was down for quite some time, but is up again now.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Friday, 6 February 2004 03:10 (twenty-two years ago)

[donning flame retardent uniform] i really can't understand peoples pissy attitudes about a FREE program the generally works pretty damn well!

...ahh,entitlement!

william (william), Friday, 6 February 2004 03:13 (twenty-two years ago)

What abstinence can do with you, you know... :-)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Friday, 6 February 2004 03:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Still isn't working for me. Do I need a latest version? I haven't actually been on slsk for a while.

Rock Bastard, Friday, 6 February 2004 08:23 (twenty-two years ago)

you might need the latest version

cinniblount (James Blount), Friday, 6 February 2004 08:25 (twenty-two years ago)

For me, it won't let me download anything - When I right click on a file it stops being highlighted, and then shortly afterwards it crashes horribly.

Gatinha (rwillmsen), Friday, 6 February 2004 13:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I know this has been covered many times before, but what are the current (reliable) alternatives?

Gatinha (rwillmsen), Friday, 6 February 2004 13:32 (twenty-two years ago)

None of those free filesharing programs are fully reliable anyway. And, I mean, they are free. No reason demanding too much from them.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Friday, 6 February 2004 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

whats the deal with slsk.com and some bastard software that trys to invade your harddisc?...

i know its slsknet.org... but i wonder how many unsuspecting people have been infected with this thing (and what does it do?)

Chief Boabab (Chief Boabab), Friday, 6 February 2004 17:53 (twenty-two years ago)

winmx is an occasional alternative for me.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 6 February 2004 18:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Tis not working for me at the moment. Anyone else?

hmmm (hmmm), Sunday, 9 May 2004 10:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I´m getting the follwoing error:

"could not find server address. If your internet connection is up, this might be a problém with your name resolution service. please try again later"

hmmm (hmmm), Sunday, 9 May 2004 10:37 (twenty-one years ago)

seems ok to me.

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Sunday, 9 May 2004 10:40 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, looks fine..

the 'surface' 'noise' (electricsound), Sunday, 9 May 2004 10:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Is there anything I can do sort that error out? Flatmate reckons there´s just too many people logged on. I am not convinced.

hmmm (hmmm), Sunday, 9 May 2004 10:51 (twenty-one years ago)

sorted now. downloaded new version.

hmmm (hmmm), Sunday, 9 May 2004 12:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Ryan WS (fffv), Saturday, 15 May 2004 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

we all know about the staus prober. that is so not the point of why we are here.

myke boomnoise (myke boomnoise), Saturday, 15 May 2004 13:34 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry. someone asked if it was down. answer seems to be yes. i suppose i don't know the point of why you are here but i did not man to offend.

Ryan WS (fffv), Saturday, 15 May 2004 13:37 (twenty-one years ago)

seems fine to me right now. 1:01 pm pst

jergins (jergins), Sunday, 27 February 2005 21:01 (twenty-one years ago)

searches really are awful these days. privileges only really help you jump the queue if your 591th in a queue or something and other people in the queue have no privileges.

zappi (joni), Sunday, 27 February 2005 21:01 (twenty-one years ago)

a couple months back, privileges made a HUGE difference - now i barely notice.

djdee (djdee2005), Sunday, 27 February 2005 21:03 (twenty-one years ago)

What is the deal with search results presently anyway? One gets next to nothing even on common stuff. Is that a glitch with 155, or is it--as suggested on another thread--the fear of prosecution that's made everyone go list only?

No, Not Marcel, Saturday, 5 March 2005 22:49 (twenty-one years ago)

is soulseek up fr anyone else?

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 5 March 2005 22:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I went to the forum looking for answers and what I found was that even though search results were just fine before the mandatory upgrade to 155, they (nir, whoever else runs slsk) are claiming that this search result problem has nothing to do with 155, and that to go back to 152 won't help anything. Apparently he is doing some kind of server reconfig or whatever. But it all sounds like fishy bs to me. If it was fine before and now it's not, how can it NOT be 155 that is the problem?

Bimble... (Bimble...), Saturday, 5 March 2005 23:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I mean what is so wrong with leaving software that actually WORKS alone instead of endlessly tinkering with it and just causing more problems?

Bimble... (Bimble...), Saturday, 5 March 2005 23:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Why couldn't it be a concurrent server-side concern?

I got the impression the original arrangement wasn't scaling up so well for an increased number of users. Hence the tinkering?

yes it is

Aerodynamic (Aerodynamic), Saturday, 23 April 2005 21:28 (twenty years ago)

how long for? days? hours? its been about 3 hrs for me.

piscesboy, Saturday, 23 April 2005 22:01 (twenty years ago)

three weeks pass...

Is the search totally not working for anyone else? I mean like 0 results basic things(Kompakt, etc.).

jergins (jergins), Saturday, 14 May 2005 22:31 (twenty years ago)

the search has been pretty good for me

Aerodynamic (Aerodynamic), Saturday, 14 May 2005 22:37 (twenty years ago)

Search was wonky earlier in the week, but I've been getting good results the past 2 or 3 days.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Saturday, 14 May 2005 22:56 (twenty years ago)

My search function seems to be shit. To test it I typed "nirvana" and got no replies. Then I tried "oasis" and got a weird avi file. This isn't right surely?

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 23 May 2005 23:14 (twenty years ago)

That's somewhat recent, big artists screw up the search.

Anyone getting things they wanted to download showing up again in their folder long after they're removed? I delete something and it comes back an hour later as if it's been redownloaded. I heard someone else say they're getting this but I don't know if it's widespread.

Cunga (Cunga), Monday, 23 May 2005 23:55 (twenty years ago)

Go to 'Options' than 'File Sharing...' to 'Accept Downloads From:' and change it from "Everyone" to "No One" or another choice. It has fixed that problem for me.

BeeOK (boo radley), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 06:58 (twenty years ago)

Sorry instead of 'Accept Downloads From:' I really meant 'Accept Uploads From' the last line in that box.

How about this oddity today:

type in a search query and get results for a previous query, occasionally mixed in with new results (like i typed in geiger and the ada remixes i was trying to get yesterday came up). anyone else?

jergins (jergins), Sunday, 26 June 2005 17:19 (twenty years ago)

Okay so, sick of never being able to get decent search results, I decided to download the latest version (157). After struggling with .cfg files, I managed to get it up and running but now there are hardly any people in the ILM chatroom, only one of the people on my Userlist are appearing and my previous downloads have stopped donwloading. IS this normal? Is it because I can only see people running this version?

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 21:07 (twenty years ago)

i am still on the las t156, but its all gone fucked for me, somthings up with my ports or router* or something, and although i can see people in the chatrooms and do searches none of my queue starts. it seems DL, and you must forgive my total ignorance if this is wrong, that discrepancies in what version people are using lead to such anomalies, that you are experiencing, ie you are too far advanced. this might be utter shite, but ive heard people mention it in the part. slsk truly is an enigma

ambrose (ambrose), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 21:39 (twenty years ago)

If it were not for the ragga-jungle, reggae, drum'n'bass, and grime rooms SLSK would be almost a complete waste of time. However because of the ragga-jungle, reggae, drum'n'bass, and grime rooms it is fantastic. Woo hoo.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 21:49 (twenty years ago)

assuming you like ragga-jungle, reggae, drum'n'bass, or grime

fe zaffe (fezaffe), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 22:19 (twenty years ago)

Well except for pop and non-indie hip-hop, there are rooms for just about everything so ya know I figure that most folks can find what they're into.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 22:29 (twenty years ago)

Is it because I can only see people running this version?

I believe so.

Cunga (Cunga), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 23:18 (twenty years ago)

wishlist + room searches + patience = slsk tolerance

yes. since 157 is a test version, you only see users also running 157.

teh Nü and Impröved john n chicago (frankE), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 01:40 (twenty years ago)

yeah, it says here that you can run 157 alongside older versions to help them test, if you want:

http://www.slsknet.org/157.html

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 06:38 (twenty years ago)

I STRONGLY URGE everybody to UPGRADE to the test version, there may be fewer people using it, but the SEARCH results (at least for the minimal and electro house I'm searching for) are FAR BETTER and FASTER than 156.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!?
Tried using Soulseek this morning. It would start up okay, run for about a minute and a half and then the process would just...die.
Decided it was time to see if there was a new version yet.
Turns out that there are two (shady-looking) websites out there offering either "Soulseek 158" or "Soulseek 2007".
Both are "we won't let you download until give us your credit card numbers" Nu-Napster wannabe.
What Gives?

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Thursday, 28 September 2006 20:05 (nineteen years ago)

one year passes...

i have a question that i don't think i should start a new thread for, and with this being a recently revived soulseek thread, i guess i'll just ask here.

how much safer or unsafer (relativity to slsk or dc or something) does anyone here think it might be to download music posted on blogs and hosted on one-click servers? i do this all the time, and not knowing how safe or unsafe it is, i kind of have a lot of worry for it in the back of my mind.

if we start any kind of new discussion for this, and there's a better thread for it, just let me know.

andi, Sunday, 25 November 2007 23:28 (eighteen years ago)

I think the best thread for your question is probably this one

These Robust Cookies, Monday, 26 November 2007 00:00 (eighteen years ago)

thanks

andi, Monday, 26 November 2007 01:56 (eighteen years ago)

twelve years pass...

soulseek has been so completely flaky over the last week or so, whenever downloading one file will go and then the rest will just sit there and never start. i know enough that i'm not the only one having this problem but there's no acknowledgement of the problem or any eta on fixing it. i know soulseek is literally old enough to vote at this point and at some point i guess i should just let it go...

Kate (rushomancy), Wednesday, 20 May 2020 23:05 (five years ago)
