MTV school deal flashes by almost as fast as Janet

Facing parents incensed by the Super Bowl stunt that popped pop singer Janet Jackson's tit during the sacrosanct wholesome family viewing hours, officials cancelled plans to let MTV film a reality show at Laguna Beach High School.

Laguna Beach USD board members had tentatively proposed the deal, for which the district was to receive a donation of up to $40,000 for college scholarships, plus royalties -- last week with no opposition.
But forty thousand dollars is an insignificant sum when speaking of college education and even small handfuls of students.

Two days after Super Sunday, the school board scheduled an emergency meeting to reconsider.

Scores of angry parents, students and alumni packed board chambers. Dozens more overflowed into the hallways outside.

"MTV is a business, and its ultimate motivation is to make money," Jeff Praisler, a recent graduate of the school, told the board. "The intellectual aspects of our community are threatened by MTV. It's garbage."

At issue was whether MTV camera crews would be allowed to trail a group of high school students during school hours for the reality program. The network is choosing six to eight student -- who would not be paid by MTV moneychangers -- to follow to the end of the school year, chronicling their lives on and off campus.

At the end of the meeting, district board members voted unamimously against the agreement.

Several parents said they had been uncomfortable about the proposal since learning about it last week in a letter from the Laguna Beach school principal, who described the program as a "positive opportunity."

For many, the Jackson incident was the deciding factor.

The president of the school's PTA said in interview that she had felt "blindsided" by the principal's announcement of MTV's pact with the school and questioned the wisdom of associating with a network well known for its promotion of a colorful variety of brainless filths aimed at young people.

In a prepared statement, MTV spokeswoman Janet Hill said, "MTV had been looking forward to intrusive filming at Laguna Beach High School. Network producers will meet tomorrow to discuss if we will continue our program without access to the campus whether the parents of students at Laguna Beach High School like it or not."

Opinions among the student body were average, some opposed, some in support, some indifferent.

I really, really wish Janet Jackson had called a press conference and said "I showed you my tit, tee-hee." The she should have run off the stage and holed up in the Ozarks with a shotgun.

From vh1.com -- "Timberlake is still scheduled to perform at Sunday's Grammys, which are also being broadcast on CBS, but his stunt has had consequences for another 'NSYNC singer. ***JC Chasez, who was scheduled to perform at Sunday's NFL Pro Bowl, has been axed from the halftime festivities.***

"In light of what happened Sunday, we took a hard look at what he was going to perform and decided to move in another direction," league spokesperson Brian McCarthy said Wednesday. "This is a reflection of what was communicated by the league on Monday. We said we are making changes and this is the first one."

Rewritten GG Allin song for Janet to record and sing on TV:

Expose Yourself to Kids

Let's flash some kids, they can't say no
Thrill them now before they grow
Threaten them with your pointy tit
Everyone will be fit to shit

'Cause it's alright to expose yourself to kids
Do it now before they grow up and it's too late
Find an audience during family time
Pop your tit and sing a line

Suck my big S&M tit
You know you want to, give into it
Watch parents scream and cry with fear
Ah, screw you all, next time derriere

George Smith, Thursday, 5 February 2004 21:19 (twenty-two years ago)

b-b-b-but I was looking forward to seeing JC's cock at the pro bowl halftime show.. dang.,

5 point penalty for the inadvertant mental image, Matos.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 5 February 2004 21:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll take those five points back because only you would bother, Dan

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Thursday, 5 February 2004 21:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Woo!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 5 February 2004 21:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw Justin on tv right after it happened, and he was laughing and enjoying it as the publicity stunt that it was. Now he's acting like he was raped by Janet and was a totally innocent victim in the affair. What a chucklehead!*

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 5 February 2004 21:32 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, my Justin-like is eroding fast after this.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Thursday, 5 February 2004 21:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Go JC!

On Wednesday, the 'N Syncer said he was disappointed to be benched but added, ''I've told the NFL I understand the pressure that they are under since the Super Bowl.'' The next day, however, he blitzed the NFL with a long rant, saying he'd rejected even the consolation offer of singing the National Anthem before the game. ''The NFL's shallow effort to portray my music as sexually indecent brings to mind another era when innocent artists were smeared with a broad brush by insecure but powerful people,'' Chasez said in a statement on Thursday. ''That's not the America I love. Nor is this the NFL I love. I'll sing the national anthem anytime, anywhere, but not for this NFL.''

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Friday, 6 February 2004 17:33 (twenty-two years ago)

'All Day I Dream About Sex' is not a sincere sentiment then? bastard!

stevem (blueski), Friday, 6 February 2004 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Key word's *'indecent'*, mate. That's just stating the obvious.

For Janet or someone from "Desperate Housewives" to record and sing on TV, slightly rewritten to accomodate Frank Rich piece in Arts section of New York Times:

Expose Yourself to Kids

Let's flash some kids, they can't say no
Thrill them now before they grow
Threaten 'em with your bare-assed back
Everyone [& no one] will look for crack

'Cause it's alright to expose yourself to kids
Do it now before they grow up and it's too late
Tell the AFA after dinner time
Pop your tit and sing a line

George Smith, Monday, 29 November 2004 22:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I was wondering why this show seemed to be flying by so quickly.

I'm serious ... Ti-i-i-i-im (deangulberry), Monday, 29 November 2004 22:47 (twenty-one years ago)
