so i heard this song at lunchtime i'd never heard before. it was riding on this very 80s sounding electric bass, the rest of the arrangement sounded like "ain't no fun" or "doggy dogg world"

the vocal hooks were something like "let's make it like we're friends" and "be good to me" repeated a bunch of times. didn't hear the verses at all.

and i couldn't tell if it was new or late 80s

While we're at it, I've been trying to ID an old R&B track for years. I'm gonna guess late '60s through maybe 1980. Not a disco record; could be Motown, though. It's a light, swinging track with a male falsetto, a la Smokey Robinson (could be Smokey, in fact), and the chorus hook goes "Oh how happy/ you have made me/ O-ohhh how happy/ you have made me." I heard it on the radio exactly once, years ago, and I've tried to ID it ever since no luck. Anyone? Please?

Jackson 5 "Oh How Happy"? from about 1970...

Wow. That was easy. Thanks a heap.

np. my strategy was to google:

"oh how happy you have made me" lyrics

i.e. phrase surrounded by quotes and then the word 'lyrics'. It usually does the trick.

nine years pass...

Hoping not to repeat brbrbrbrbrbr GRIM REAPAAAAAHHHHH, but I heard this amazing song this morning...60s or possibly 70s, really raw. Dude talking about the world burning down and something about how can you judge me when you don't know what I go through. Helpful, I know. There was also a call-and-response where the women were all responding "NO!" In my defense, it was 8 am and I was modeling for a drawing class & I'd been up the whole night before. Shoulda just asked the instructor what it was.
