is anybody else excited to hear it?? am i the only pop-rap ho left? should i start posting reasons why i can't wait? (most of them will have to do with "no greater love" i think)

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 5 February 2004 21:19 (twenty-two years ago)

i have heard it.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 5 February 2004 21:21 (twenty-two years ago)

nu-skool roc-a-fella album in "good for you soul food" boringness shocker.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 5 February 2004 21:22 (twenty-two years ago)

eek! too bad. that's not what i wanted to hear.

what do you think of "no greater love"?

is there a dancehall posse remix of "can't stop won't stop"?

and what's this about soul food??

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 5 February 2004 21:26 (twenty-two years ago)

well i have to review it this weekend, so i haven't formed all my thoughts together just yet.

it's just very much in line with the whole just blaze (when he's being "fonky" rather than futuristic) kanye axis..."time" rocks the sped up soul sample..."look in your eyes" has the creepy-organ/harpsichord-and-scary-movie-fx vibe (good vocal hook tho, very goth)..."friday night" does the door knocker beat and old school stabs thing (this is a blaze production for sure and its actually pretty hot...i think he might be scratching 50 on the chorus?)..."north of death" = havoc from mobb deep X the first blueprint

i'm probably being too hard on it. and that scott storch produced track from the bleek album is fucking awesome, so maybe the roc isnt done just yet.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 5 February 2004 21:36 (twenty-two years ago)

i am really into "no greater love", maybe because it's built on the same three-note sample as fila brazilia's "subtle body".

also the part in the video where rell is singing and doing the soul clap with the rocky mountains as his audience is one of the more openhearted and optimistic moments available on mtvjams ca. jan 2004.

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 5 February 2004 21:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Jess is right: "Murda Murda" is (along with "Milkshake (Remix)") how This is Not a Test should actually sound.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Thursday, 5 February 2004 22:31 (twenty-two years ago)

hmmm. maybe i'll be picking up memphis bleek, too. haven't heard anything other than "round here" - but it's gotta be better than the AMG review says, right?

isn't anybody else into "no greater love"?

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 5 February 2004 22:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Very anxious to hear this.

I'm pretty sure I listed No Better Love on the 2004 singles thread.

Andy K (Andy K), Thursday, 5 February 2004 22:55 (twenty-two years ago)

haha i can never ever ever get the fucking name right

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 5 February 2004 22:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha woops I didn't even notice that

Andy K (Andy K), Thursday, 5 February 2004 23:02 (twenty-two years ago)

the Gunz are probably my least favorite of the whole Roc roster right now, mainly based on all of Young Chris's shitty guest verses (definitely Neef > Chris), but "No Better Love" is a pretty damn good grown'n'sexy joint.

is "Murda Murda" really Scott Storch? I remember seeing it on one of those Timbaland discography pages back when it was just a Blueprint outtake, so I always assumed it was him.

Al (sitcom), Friday, 6 February 2004 04:36 (twenty-two years ago)

i think the new camron is going to be worse. i can't for the life of me understand what is going on with the single. the lsd effects in the video are cool and so's the pink gear but that's about it.

selling the rover = bad sign?

vahid (vahid), Friday, 6 February 2004 06:48 (twenty-two years ago)

since when did pop-rap monikers ape hair metal monikers?

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 6 February 2004 07:30 (twenty-two years ago)

i mean, I was fearing an onslaught of beautiful hair and rock power before I clicked on this thread..

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 6 February 2004 07:31 (twenty-two years ago)

he says he's going to buy a pink phantom!

cloverlandthug, Friday, 6 February 2004 08:01 (twenty-two years ago)

t/s: r kelly in pink v camron in pink

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 6 February 2004 13:24 (twenty-two years ago)

two weeks pass...
no greater love is so beautiful. it has the happiest recent video, snow and range rovers and fireplaces and smiling and friends. and the beautiful song.

the album is nice.

William Wiggins, Saturday, 21 February 2004 07:39 (twenty-two years ago)

what other song used that rich girls sample?

William Wiggins, Saturday, 21 February 2004 07:40 (twenty-two years ago)

i remember hearing it on the final chapter 2k3 but i assumed it was just a freestyle on someone else's instrumental.

William Wiggins, Saturday, 21 February 2004 07:52 (twenty-two years ago)

the final chapter 2k3 liner says it's tow down - 'rich girls' from chicken fried steak. okay?

comin up i thought cupid was stupid
only two loves, my family and music
fallin through somethin, just couldn't do it
it was the beginning of time--
and you was like nine but goddamn, you was fine
used to stay on my mind, when i was out on my grind
opened up the bags when i was choppin my dimes

William Wiggins, Saturday, 21 February 2004 08:02 (twenty-two years ago)

neef is the cute one.

William Wiggins, Saturday, 21 February 2004 08:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Murda Murda is Scott Storch.

How could Roc be over if it never really started? I mean, they really haven't had any quality albums outside Jay-Z.

If anything, they're just getting started now, not falling off!

djdee2005, Saturday, 21 February 2004 08:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh yeah, and the Young Gunz single is amazing.

djdee2005, Saturday, 21 February 2004 08:16 (twenty-two years ago)

the reason, philadelphia freeway?

William Wiggins, Saturday, 21 February 2004 08:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Philadelphia Freeway is pretty good (although I was expecting more after the terrific single) and I'm not a huge fan of The Reason, although its definitely got some dope tracks. But two decent albums will hardly be considered the height of Rocafella power, I would hope.

djdee2005, Saturday, 21 February 2004 08:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Holy shit I'm downloading the Young Gunz album and it's unbelievable.

djdee2005, Saturday, 21 February 2004 08:51 (twenty-two years ago)
