three 6 mafia - chpt. 2 "world domination"

1998! three six mafia! are yall ready for us! obviously it's perfect mix of straight street and that lame horrorcore spookiness, goats bleating and little girl nursery rhyme thing on the intro but right away it's car horns and dogs barking and the city. so, whatever, there are lots of skulls on the cover and they talk about demons dancing around thrones and evil voices announce things and quote scripture and it is dark in a good way but the police kick in doors and they drive motherfuckin impalas with the windows tinted and bitches try to get them to buy shit for them. everyone sounds pretty good, especially gangsta boo, who is totally the star and sounds beautiful and shrill and perfect all the time. but the way it all sounds! i don't know what to compare it to. they're like basic, passable southern beats plus a bunch of special things. 'neighborhood hoe' has one of the most melancholy, subdued beat i've ever heard and echoey answering machine messages singing the hook. 'gunclaps' with the totally cheapest drum sound ever and some weird vocoder thing. when crunchy does the end of 'gunclaps,' singing and all that, it sounds so strangely joyful and amazing and fucking weird. 'got dem 9s' with the sped-up king's quest 3 magic whistle and the chorus WHO GOT THEM NINES?? WHO GET THEM TECS?? THROW YOUR MOTHERFUCKIN SET TO SHOW YOU GOT RESPECT. and '3-6 in the morning' with the strangest violin sound fighting with angry grinding-- i can't describe it properly! and they do the thing everyone in the world loves where they totally drop out the beat to punctuate great lines: ALL REAL HOES KNOW A NIGGA THAT LICK ON THE CAT and I WEAR A MASK ON MY FACE SO I WON'T CATCH A CASE keepin it low key don't nobody know me.
