I'll be the only one to say it: Yellow Eyes

dave225 (Dave225), Friday, 6 February 2004 20:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Holy shit! JMC and I are actually in complete and total AGREEMENT! on this one.

Riddle me this, though: WHY IS FUCKIN' MIAMI OUT OF FUCKIN' PRINT STILL?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 6 February 2004 20:10 (twenty-two years ago)

There are a whole load of issues revolving around it, apparently. Legal ones, creative ones, who knows? All I've got is the Miami/Death Party picture bootleg and the quality sounds like 128kbps mp3.

Um... Sex Beat. Duh.

anything off the first album and/or Port of Souls.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 6 February 2004 23:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry to be obvious (actually I'm not sorry 'cause I love the song so much), but "Ghost on the Highway" (and, yeah, what scott said).

David A. (Davant), Friday, 6 February 2004 23:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Probably "Jack on Fire," though I'm also really fond of "Keys to the Kingdom"

Thomas Tallis (Tommy), Friday, 6 February 2004 23:26 (twenty-two years ago)

the first album is so much better than everything else, miami included, that it's goofy to even talk about them in the same breath. i'm glad that i don't have to choose between sex beat, she's like heroin, promise me, jack on fire, and for the love of ivy.

"Mother of Earth"

Arthur (Arthur), Saturday, 7 February 2004 01:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I've got the "Miami" album on cd & it does have one of the worst mixes ever!!! Way too much treble,no bass,etc...It kinda reminds me of the way the original version of "Raw Power" was mixed.Just can't get the damned thing loud enough particularly with Jeffries voice recorded at earsplitting distortion levels.Still....Only a fool would argue that it is a better album than "Fire of Love" but i think the highs on this album are just as good as the highs on the previous one.I second the "Mother of Earth" selection although "Sex Beat" is probably the right choice.I saw them live on the Miami tour & live those songs were amazing. And what did everybody forget the"Las Vegas Story".At least it "sounded good"

I have the original vinyl Miami and it was a pretty shitty production, so it may be that there'll never be a good-sounding CD version. And I more or less agree that Miami's high were as good as Fire of Love's, but there weren't as many of them.

'Fire of Love' or 'For the Love of Ivy'

'She's Like Heroin To Me'

Matthew W.B., Saturday, 7 February 2004 03:43 (twenty-two years ago)

The first recording by The Gun Club I had was a tape of Mother Juno. I love the song "The Breaking Hands", but it isn't much like the rest of their tunes.

Fire of Love is a good record front to back, I suppose "Ghost on the Highway" would be my favorite on that one, if I had to pick.

I've meaning to pick up Miami or another early album before checking out the later ones after Mother Juno, but then they pretty much dissapeared.

texas serenade

mig, Saturday, 7 February 2004 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

"Texas Serenade" (which I really only got to know a long while after it came out, as it was used to end every broadcast day at WKDU for a while--maybe still is for all I know). I should just buy House of Love and stop complaining that Miami is out of print. I'm not sure why I still like the Gun Club, but I do.

Rockist Scientist (rockistscientist), Saturday, 7 February 2004 18:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I wasn't too aware of them at the time they were new, but I'm pretty sure I heard "Sex Beat."

seven months pass...
"Brother and Sister" from Miami. For some reason, that "awaayyYEAH!" at the end of each chorus just slays me, every time.
