Mersey Beat
Rainbow (because it doesn't matter how old you get, you never forget it)

One of my friends was singing that a few days ago and it pissed me off! I told her to stop, then she looked at me and sang a little more and then I yelled, "Shut up!" and she laughed and tried to hide her face from me.

@ see ar,

thats a good question.. not sure to what extent you can separate the music from the show in your head - especially w/ the bad ones, 'cause the music is just a trigger/reminder of the crapass tv show..

this said, i at least attempted to separate the two in my picks- i like a few of the shows in my picks - seinfeld, jeorpady, and i tried to leave out things like full house where i think the show is much worse than the music...

somehow i want to put PeeWee's playhouse on both best and worst lists (leaning toward best, but that voice...... :)

Colin Beckett (Colin Beckett), Sunday, 8 February 2004 18:53 (twenty-two years ago)

four years pass...

the worst for me would be:

dear john theme (american version):

http://youtube.com/watch?v=Z4ZLVGtqPiU

doctor doctor theme (horrible post-max headroom matt frewer sitcom):

http://youtube.com/watch?v=dBKm8W87mGQ

(i don't know why that doctor doctor song used to annoy me so much. but it did. especially that falsetto "is there a doctor in the house" bit at the end.)

dr. john's theme for Blossom should be on here too:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=ir0er0mxUm4

although i was always a fan of leon redbone's mr.belvedere theme:

Ever notice how, sometime around the early '70s, U.S. sitcoms quickly phased out the narrative themes that capsulized the shows' premise (like "The Ballad of Jed Clampett") in favour of more genericically universal/meaningless lyrics? All the better to maximize the chance of getting an actual hit single upon releasing said themes commercially. Three of the most successful hits of 1979 were themes to UN-successful sitcoms (retroactively so for "My Life", the theme from Bosom Buddies which didn't premiere until a year later.)

"Three of the most successful hits hit singles of 1979..."

(clarified)

Myonga Vön Bontee, Monday, 21 July 2008 07:12 (seventeen years ago)

the thing that pisses me off about the sienfeld theme is that it somehow rips off "my perogative" by bobby brown, without a) sounding as cool as "my perogative"by bobby brown, or b) ripping it off completely enough for seinfeld to get sued over it.

they didn't grab the melody, just like the bassline and general riff iirc then made it sound all cheesy. i hate that theme.
