i ended up getting l'enfant assassin des mouches - it is a string-led, orchestrated trip into psychedelic hell. nice.

I wouldn't have minded until I saw the special guests.

Couldn't they afford Leonard Cohen then?

L'Enfant Asssasin Des Mouches is a great album though. Track two should be used for Pick Of The Pops-style chart rundowns.

I must admit, I haven't heard that one yet. Bought the soundtrack to Cannabis the other day - was a little let down after the (rather fetching) title track, but I will persist.

*pardon my tangent*

I've never had much use for Andy Votel's music, but the guy's quite the curator, I'll give him that...(the Yamasuki re-issue on Finders Keepers is fun stuff indeed)...

Vannier was excellent when it was just him and a concert piano (and electric piano and toy pianio and accordion) at the Luminaire the other week.

More info added...

On the 21st October Finders Keepers and Andy Votel will play a key role in the assemblage of a forty piece orchestra, a thirty piece choir and one of the finest British rhythm sections from the annals of rock history for a one-off special event which fans of conceptual Gallic psych-rock probably never thought they'd experience in this mortal lifetime.

It is a great pleasure to inform you that Serge Gainsbourg's right hand man (Dubbed in the press recently as 'The French David Axelrod') Maestro Jean-Claude Vannier will appear at the Barbican theatre to conduct the first EVER live performance of the legendary 'Histoire De Melody Nelson' LP originally penned by Jean-Claude and Serge Gainsbourg in 1971 and infamously recognised around the globe as the greatest French album of all time. Naturally we have gone to extreme lengths to ensure that this performance is as authentic an faithful to the original recordings as humanly possible and for this reason we have attempted to enlist the services of as many of the original band as possible who played on the original recording which took place at the Marble Arch studio in the Summer of 1971. Behold! Herbie Flowers, Big Jim Sullivan, Dougie Wright and Vic Flick alongside members of Toolshed and ex -members of Gong.

For the previously initiated into the clandestine world of Finders Keepers you will be very familiar with our maiden voyage release 'L'Enfant Assassin Des Mouches' - The mythical concept album made by J.C. Vannier directly after 'Melody Nelson' and christened by collectors for years as 'Melody Nelson 2'. Naturally 'our man from Paris' will also be conducting this psych-rock concrete masterpeice including the noise of a radio controlled plane and a hundred alarm clocks live on stage and some scorching bursts of acid-rock and anatolian psych for your listening pleasure. This is going to blow your head off!

But what about Serge? I hear you ask. It would take some serious plates-of-meat to fill the shoes of our original front-man though - So we have decided to select 6 Serge-a-centric Gainsbourg enthusiasts to perform the Melody Nelson vocal tracks on the night. Expect to hear the voices of Jarvis Cocker, B-Music regular Gruff Rhys, Mick Harvey from The Bad Seeds, Laetitia Sadier and Badly Drawn Boy and a SPECIAL SURPRISE INCLUSION to complete the mind-bending bill.

Make no mistake - We will also pepper the weekend with a selection of pre and post B-Music events including a screening of rare Gainsbourg films and a blistering French disco featuring the usual B-Culprits.

Go Andy! Though I'd still much rather have Mick Harvey involved in this than Jarvis "Hey! I'm, Like, The New Serge!" Cocker.
