Should I replace the Sly song (which cuts off) which something by MBV off of loveless? With which song?

Sym (shmuel), Sunday, 8 February 2004 20:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Is that Leadbelly song just too creepy, regardless of its greatness as a song?

Sym (shmuel), Sunday, 8 February 2004 20:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Is putting a song that i sing on the most narcissistic thing ever?

Sym (shmuel), Sunday, 8 February 2004 20:35 (twenty-two years ago)

"If I Was Your Girlfriend" >>> "Where Did You Sleep Last Night?"
in creepiness

Slumberlord (Imbroglio), Sunday, 8 February 2004 20:37 (twenty-two years ago)

How so?

Sym (shmuel), Sunday, 8 February 2004 20:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, To Here Knows When or Blown a Wish would be my picks. Or Slow, if you really want to get her in the mood ... (not on Loveless, though)
Is that Leadbelly song just too creepy, regardless of its greatness as a song?
No, leave Leadbelly where it is. I am a firm believer that music + romance should not just be about mushy bullshit, it's about emotion, whether it be good or bad.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Sunday, 8 February 2004 20:40 (twenty-two years ago)

What possessed you to put Spaced Cowboy on there in the first place? Maybe (You Caught Me) Smilin' would work better or at the very least.. not get cut off.

Also, I'd probably start it off with Girl From the North Country which is a kinda romantic sounding song that has a good "intro" feel to it. Tonight I'll be Staying Here With You is good but it's just a bit too corny sounding, isn't it? Maybe that was your angle though.

may pang (maypang), Sunday, 8 February 2004 20:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I think she's heard North Country too much. And a little corniness is good.

Sym (shmuel), Sunday, 8 February 2004 20:56 (twenty-two years ago)

How so?

"If I was your girlfriend
Would U let me dress U
I mean, help U pick out your clothes
Before we go out
Not that you're helpless
But sometimes, sometimes
Those are the things that bein' in love's about
If I was your one and only friend
Would U run 2 me if somebody hurt U
Even if that somebody was me?"

But hey if it fits your relationship more power to you.

Slumberlord (Imbroglio), Sunday, 8 February 2004 21:16 (twenty-two years ago)

If I was your one and only friend
Would U run 2 me if somebody hurt U
Even if that somebody was me?"

Best line about relationships in the history of music, my friend.

Sym (shmuel), Sunday, 8 February 2004 21:40 (twenty-two years ago)

"No, leave Leadbelly where it is. I am a firm believer that music + romance should not just be about mushy bullshit, it's about emotion, whether it be good or bad. "

but it is specifically a valentine's day tape
i think it might come across as a bit weird

robin (robin), Sunday, 8 February 2004 21:52 (twenty-two years ago)

It's no weirder than putting I'm in Love With a Girl in between Bubba Sparxxx and Gang Starr.

may pang (maypang), Sunday, 8 February 2004 21:58 (twenty-two years ago)

But the Bubba song has the same theme...tho the Gang Starr is pretty random.
Do y'all think it's a good tape?

Sym (shmuel), Sunday, 8 February 2004 22:00 (twenty-two years ago)

If she likes this stuff as much as you do, then yeah.. best tape ever.

may pang (maypang), Sunday, 8 February 2004 22:03 (twenty-two years ago)

That's a very non-committal answer

Sym (shmuel), Sunday, 8 February 2004 22:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, you're not making it for us are you?

may pang (maypang), Sunday, 8 February 2004 22:13 (twenty-two years ago)

this would work better as a lupercalia tape.

keith m (keithmcl), Sunday, 8 February 2004 22:18 (twenty-two years ago)

but it is specifically a valentine's day tape
True, but almost none of the tracks are your typical love songs. The mood of the tape is quiet and melancholy -- far more so than weepy "luv U 4evR" pap.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Sunday, 8 February 2004 22:25 (twenty-two years ago)

You have to end with "I'm In Love With A Girl". Its the law.

Even then, she won't get it. They never do (sigh).....

David Nolan (David N.), Monday, 9 February 2004 01:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah. It's pretty obvious. Girls must be dumb.

ModJ (ModJ), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 00:17 (twenty-two years ago)

i think this is a prank post. Piazza New York Catcher?

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 00:32 (twenty-two years ago)

What in the hell is "Do It" doing there?

Suicide wishes on a Valentine's Day mix?

Playa Hata, Tuesday, 10 February 2004 05:31 (twenty-two years ago)

What in the hell is "Do It" doing there?
Suicide wishes on a Valentine's Day mix?

Don't worry about it. No one knows what he's saying anyways.

Sym (shmuel), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 05:35 (twenty-two years ago)

haha your side b RULES may!! i am going to make a valentine's day mix that is just flipper's 'if i can't be drunk' over and over and over

geeta (geeta), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 05:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Listen honey, you better make a mix tape for me, or i'm gonna rape your bum. I think you should put "I can't help falling in love with you" by elvis; "la la love you" by the pixies; and there is this wicked song off the "Talk to Her" soundtrack, but i don't know if it's about love or not because it's in spanish, but i think so, and it's really good. have you seen the coachella lineup -- it's fucking insane! I won't even start mentioning names because there's too many ...Dizee Rascal, Wilco, The Pixies, The Flaming Lips, okokok way more. oh yeah, you should put "I still haven't found what i'm looking for" by U2 and waiting for a superman by the Flaming lips. just kidding. so: if you have a grand to spare, my buddies are driving down to Cali for the gig. Tell me if you're interested. not that i think i will be able to afford to go. but a boy has to dream right? Put "I'm too sexy for your body" by Right Said Fred. Seiouslym put "Hey Angel" by Jawbox on there -- that's a wicked song. Love you babe.

Jaromil (Jaromil), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 05:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Right back atcha Jaromil! Keep writin'!

Sym (shmuel), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 05:54 (twenty-two years ago)

i think you mean savory by jawbox.
that would indeed be a brilliant track to use.

dyson (dyson), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 05:58 (twenty-two years ago)

OH yeah that's it. cheers!
