Two staples of the mid-80s Canadian rock scene. Which was better?

Platinum Blonde all the way. "It Doesn't Really Matter" is classic.
And Streetheart never played my high school.

Streetheart have a great sound (hard rock new wave disco) and more than a handful of excellent songs ("Action," "What Kind of Love it This," "Under My Thumb," "Tin Soldier," "Miss Plaza Suite"). Platinum Blonde have maybe a handful of seconds worth of goodness (the intro to "Crying Over You") and mostly crap songs. I think a closer battle is Streetheart vs. Loverboy.

Don't forget "Snow White" and "Hollywood"! I also thought "Dancing With Danger" was a great track. So despite fond memories of Platinum Blonde I'm gonna go with Streetheart too.

(ps. Streetheart kicks on Loverboy too, despite sharing a member.)

I'll take Streetheart over Loverboy for sheer quantity of excellence (and I agree w/your additions), but Loverboy put up a good battle by the utter amazingness of a few songs ("Turn Me Loose" and "Working for the Weekend" for sure; I'd add "The Kid is Hot Tonite" or "Lady of the '80s" in a pinch). "Working for the Weekend" is the best thing either of them have done, so that makes it a bit of a close call for me.

Although Platinum Blonde weren't as terrible as most believe (It Doesn't Really Matter + Standing In The Dark + Not In Love = ace pop songs), I'll have to go with Streetheart as well. "Action" is one of the best Canadian rock songs of all time and I'm pleasantly surprised that I am not alone in recognizing its greatness. I mean, it's no "Roxy Roller," but it's pretty fab.

You know after seeing a Platinum Blonde video on VH1 Classic (something about them being at a board meeting discussing models) I was wondering what planet these guys were from. I should have known...Canada.

ten years pass...

Interesting rereading in light of what did finally happen with "Not in Love"

two years pass...

The local Classic Rock station just played Streetheart's hilarious "Under My Thumb" cover. How had I never heard this before?!
