New Stranglers Album....

Ever since Hugh split from the band (and let's face it, the rot had already set in by then), I've never been able to muster any enthusiasm for the Stranglers Mk II (featuring Paul Roberts on vox), but this album is getting some glowing advance press (relatively speaking, of course) with dubious phrases like "return to form" being bandied about.

Anyone heard anything off of it? Should I get my hopes up?

And how old is poor Jet Black now? 80?

They look worryingly like a 'boy band' on the cover.

"And how old is poor Jet Black now? 80?"

I believe he was 60 on 26th August last year, although he may have been 65 (according to AMG he was only 45, but that's obviously crap!)

Shit - that last pic looks like an older version of me!

Just picked this up recently and I'm simply stunned by the quality to be honest. 'Norfolk Coast' is a blatant return to form (and I mean EMI/Liberty form at that). This band has no right to sound so menacing AND poppy 22 years after their last truly consitent album ('La Folie' IMHO).

... and by 'consitent' I mean consistent, of course!

Cheers, Guy! Might have to go pick it up now!

I reckon Jet is between around 65-67. I think he was 40 in 1977, which would make him 66/7 now.

...and, sadly, he looks it (notice they've buried him in the background on the cover).

two weeks pass...
Wow. Hearing the album for the first time as I type this. Only on the first track (the title track), and FUCK! This is actually quite GOOD, and I normally hate new guy Paul Roberts! Sounding quite a bit like "Toiler on the Sea", `cept with much beefier guitars. JJ's bass is well to the fore as usual.

Quite pleasantly surprised thus far.
