"Probably the most interesting INFP's ability is their ability to learn. Having natural difficulties with their understanding, INFPs tend to compensate for this with an impressive amount of reading, watching and listening. The more you know the more you’ll be able to understand, right? But what if you can't connect the dots? Then someone will do it for you. That's why INFPs are quite easy to brainwash. Whether it is a commercial or political bull, INFPs often go around repeating it using exact words and phrases like brainless zombies, making them perfect puppets in the hands of a skilful puppeteer."

am now and have always been INTP. take the test every decade or so, imagining that something will have shifted, but no. here i am i always am.

When I did the Myers-Briggs test the first time the sense of self-recognition was startling and, from one angle, slightly depressing: I felt like my personality was actually exhausted by the ENTP description.
So I'm always curious to know about people's strong reactions to the test pro or con.
― Tim F, Tuesday, 1 July 2014 12:21 (eleven years ago)
Everytime I've ever taken it I'm strongly ENFP but idk if I put much stock in it also I am not really an ILMer so.
― Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Tuesday, 1 July 2014 12:29 (eleven years ago)
I think it's what you get out of it really. It's fun to do, like astrology or something, but I wouldn't put too much stock in it or get hung up on it.
― 3kDk (dog latin), Tuesday, 1 July 2014 14:18 (eleven years ago)
I know I've written about it at length on some other M-B thread. I think it's useful as a metric for sussing out how you relate to/interact with the world in relation to how others relate to/interact with the world. It's a starting point, and I don't think anyone is purely ENTwhatever because it's all a continuum. And I feel like the ideal is in learning how to move towards the middle of each of the categories. I don't think it provides any kind of definitive personality schematic, but I think it is helpful, even if only in terms of recognizing that, say, someone who tends towards E-ness is going to be more depleted by solitude than someone who leans towards I-ness.
― The Golan & Globus Action Lafftacular! (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 1 July 2014 14:32 (eleven years ago)
I think it's difficult to generalise about these things. Depending on where I am and who I'm with, a lot of the variables seem to change very drastically. I'm a very different person at work to how I am when I'm playing music or socialising. People at work would almost certainly have me marked as an introvert but my friends would def peg me as an extrovert. Likewise, I'm naturally very scatty and unplanned at home and at work, but sometimes if I'm working on a music project (especially with other people), I surprise myself at how much I like to plan things out in my head and think ahead of immediate events.
― 3kDk (dog latin), Tuesday, 1 July 2014 14:55 (eleven years ago)
yeah, i think personality is dependent on context, it's not some static inherent attribute a person has. i mean who we are is just built out of the resources around us at the time designed to fit ourselves into a particular social circumstance, plus a test like this depends on our own self-perception, etc. etc. so ... it's pretty complicated. i tested as an ENTP btw.
i thought this recent takedown on Myers-Briggs was interesting: http://www.businessinsider.com/myers-briggs-personality-test-is-misleading-2014-6
― Spectrum, Tuesday, 1 July 2014 15:02 (eleven years ago)
i get either INTP or INFP depending on the types of questions they ask for the T/F dichotomy
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 1 July 2014 15:36 (eleven years ago)
my understanding of that one is that T means you act more from logic&reasoning and F means you act more from emotion but i am wildly inconsistent about that
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 1 July 2014 15:38 (eleven years ago)

As finn's post indicates you can be quite close to the borderline on any given dichotomy.
I am slightly T over F but am at the very end of the continuum for N over S.
― Tim F, Tuesday, 1 July 2014 22:59 (eleven years ago)
yeah i've gotten either INTJ or INFJ whenever i've taken them. i took a really exhaustive one once for a job where i got INTJ so i have on no real evidence always considered that the more 'accurate' one. although id be curious to do one of the versions that tells you how strongly you are each of the four types
