Classic Rockumentaries

There's a classic but obscure one on Australian band The Fauves. It follows them on a tour, releasing singles and an album, amassing a huge debt to the record co., and getting dropped. It's carried mainly by the loveable singer, who is a 33 yr old virgin and constantly laments the fact (and seems to be unable to take hints from girls), writes trashy fictional sexual encounter stories for magazines, and complains passionately about the band smoking in the van. It's as entertaining as Spinal Tap. It made him a sort of underground cult hero here.

from the fauves:
We sometimes get queries about the documentary 15 Minutes To Rock that was made on us and shown on ***. We had no involvement in the production of the doco beyond being its subjects and have no rights to its sale but you can source a copy on video by emailing Vanessa.

There's a classic BBC documentary about life on the road with 70s pub-rockers The Kursaal Flyers. Everywhere the humble Canvey Island lads go, people tell them that they "had Dr Feelgood the week before who were awesome". In a poignant aside, the singer says he doesn't go out raving with the lads any more - "I cut this out of the paper, see... garden sheds."

Many years later, the guitariast became a guitar teacher and played slide on a Menswear single. He told them that the Flyers strongly suspect that they were the original inspiration for 'This Is Spinal Tap'. Factamundo!

Oh that's too classic. Garden sheds! Heartbreaking.

i am a big fan of the band who would be king: the half japanese story.
it is the rock n roll version of grey gardens, a serious what the fuck in the eyes of anyone.
