I just realized that the "Nutcracker Suite" is the greatest thing ever.

Unfortunately I don't have a copy. I am trying to make do with Swan Lake.

All I ever wanted to be was a ballerina.

I had a date with a pretty ballerina.
Her hair so brilliant that it hurt my eyes.

They do say that everyone becomes a Romantic in their old age (not sure how old you are, though, Rockist). I suppose that means in your REALLY old age you'll become a New Romantic and listen to a lot of Visage, Spandau Ballet, and early Duran Duran.

Seriously, though, the "Nutcracker Suite" and "Swan Lake" are great pieces when one manages to get past how ubiquitous they are and also the association with xmas time.

Saw some newer production on PBS at home in December, a British one -- pretty good. I've been so used to the one with Baryshnikov that it was nice to get an alternate take at last!

Maybe tonight I've hit the moment when my brain chemistry shifts and I begin to like classical music. (I am closer to 38 than 7.)

Actually the only person I've ever known who was at some point a professional ballerina hates the Nutcracker Suite, but I guess that's understandable given how many times she's probably danced to it (mostly as a student).

x-post: I always remember a lesbian friend from college saying Baryshnikov was the one man she would consider sleeping with.

Not to forget this nugget:
"Nut Rocker" (Tchaikovsky arr. Fowley): B Bumble & The Stingers

I think there's enough good material in Swan Lake for a solid EP.

"Nut Rocker" was the Boston Bruins TV theme song forever. it may have been done by the Venturers, though, and just titled Nutty.
ELP also covered it on Pictures at an Exibition.

I take it you're not talking about Neil Simon's "Nutcraker Suite" which was "as uplifting as Jane Russell's cross-your-heart bra."
