I DIDN'T KNOW THEY WERE OPEN.

Ahem.

Sean Carruthers, Thursday, 4 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Lobsters are very open and accepting, unless your one of those blue lobsters, then they kick YO ass.

Geoff, Friday, 5 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

For those who do not know.. CLOSE LOBSTERS are the Paisley Scot Pop Band that were once apart of the C86 scene. They were signed to FIRE RECORDS... They had a minor hit with the incredible "Let's Make Some Plans" (which was later covered by The Wedding Present) They released 3 lps.. "Foxheads Stalk This Land" "What Is There To Smile About" "Headache Rhetoric"

Actually, I once owned a copy of Foxheads (I seem to recall it was on Enigma), but it didn't leave much of an impression on me at the time. Mind you, I was a punk-ass then.

Sean Carruthers, Friday, 5 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

one year passes...
Haven't heard a note by these guys, but the Fire reissue of Foxheads looks intriguing. Worth a spin?

yeah foxheads is great but if you can find a copy of 'headache rhetoric' one of the later issues is a double with foxheads tacked onto the end. foxheads is exuberant and wild, headache is a bit more somber and subdued.

hmmm i notice that the caff version of JTBS isn't on there, that kinda sucks

Going to buy it when it gets a more domestic price and maybe makes its way into US shops. 12 pounds plus postage to the US for songs I have already on 12 inch and a few cd singles is kind of a lot.

svend, Thursday, 29 October 2009 02:30 (fifteen years ago)

tis also on emusic for those so inclined

quaq quao, sweetie (electricsound), Thursday, 29 October 2009 02:32 (fifteen years ago)

Great band. I think I have almost everything on that comp though. I don't think I was aware that there was more than one version of JTBS. What's the dif? The second album is my favourite. I have a few 12 inchers too and they are pretty solid with good b-sides though I forget which ones are particularly good. Gotta dig them out again.

caff 45 is demo version.

quaq quao, sweetie (electricsound), Thursday, 29 October 2009 04:22 (fifteen years ago)

Bought this today, really cheap quality for an official cd from Fire (talking about the shitty packaging). I thought there would be liner notes or something in it, but there is none. I'm wondering it I am actually missing something though, there are two slots in the crap cardboard cover, but only one had anything. Glad I didn't pay UK prices for it.

Just realized they also left off D.D.I.R.N. from Great Fire of London.

Lots of this stuff is available on Spotify, too, which is amazing giving how long so much of it has been out of print

INFINITE CRAB MEATS

calum-y maybe (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 8 July 2012 14:00 (twelve years ago)

Oh I assumed it was completely out of print, didn't consider the label would be selling it physically.

Evan, Sunday, 8 July 2012 15:18 (twelve years ago)

You can usually Ebay for the two full-lengths for not totally unreasonable prices (usually on vinyl). I also got What Is There To Smile About there on CD, though it's a weird CD that no computer will read, so I don't have it in MP3 form. Which is a shame, b/c that's a killer EP

Evan R, Sunday, 8 July 2012 17:14 (twelve years ago)

Here's an interesting blog post about that EP that you should check out

everything, Sunday, 8 July 2012 19:58 (twelve years ago)

You can get the 2 albums on 1 CD for a very reasonable price right now on eBay not that I am shamelessly shilling oh wait yes I am

The Eyeball Of Hull (Colonel Poo), Sunday, 8 July 2012 20:51 (twelve years ago)

Evan R - have you tried another computer or different software? I own that CDEP and ripped it without issue.

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Sunday, 8 July 2012 22:50 (twelve years ago)

I tried it on a couple computers, but now my Macbook, so I'll give it a go. In a way, I almost kind of liked that it only played in CD players; it made it feel more like vinyl.

Evan R, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 15:50 (twelve years ago)

seven months pass...

It surprised me greatly today to find out that they have reformed and are playing in NYC this summer.
