Mindful-of-metal ILMers, yers help greatly appreciated (& expected)!

The query:
In the Meads Of Asphodel music, does one often encounter the kind of lulling deviations like, say, the 3:35 - 5:25 stretch in their "80 Grains of Sand"?

What say you?

Thee only track I've ever heard by them was on a "Terroriser" cover CD, and it was driving like fukc, I must say. Have you got the album? Is it worth picking up?

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 15:00 (twenty-two years ago)

AaaarrrrgHHH! ...Which Terrorizer cd then? I mean, "80 Grains of Sand" - thee only mutha of theirs I have ever heard - is from Terrorizer's (iss. 116, Jan/Feb(?) 04) 'Fear Candy01' cd...

I forget, I'll have to check tonight. It's a good disc, w/tracks by bolt thrower, sloth and tidfall iirc.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 15:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, the one I have is different then...

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 15:13 (twenty-two years ago)

err... they're relatively common, i guess, but they don't really occur in every track. both of the CD releases on supernal ("excommunication of christ" and "exhuming the grave of yeshua") are worth picking up if you like the idea of music based on venom/warfare/bulldozer/NME style crude metal blended with bits of hawkwind and cod arabic music.

the first one is best (and check out the amazing organ bit that appears all too briefly in "bene ha elohim"!), the second one experiments a little more (and has a long track at the end that seems to owe debts to early afx and hawkwind's "sonic attack"). both albums have hawkwind covers (and one of their guitarists), which should be recommendation enough...

oh yuh, "80 grains of sand" is on the second.

More bands should make this amount of effort.

Thanx, el sabor & Pashmina.

one year passes...
We really ought to talk more about Meads of Asphodel because they're probably the most inventive metal act out at the moment. I hear they're teaming up with Bill Drummond on a project.

Also: NEW ULVER ALBUM - WOAH!!!!

four years pass...

I am two songs into their new album, and it is totally nutty so far.

I remember hearing some song of theirs that had these Arabic sounding horns, if that makes sense? Did I totally invent it in my mind?

from http://www.themeadsofasphodel.com/?q=metatrons-codex

As part of a Black metal based band the blaspheming against the Christian movement and rejoicing of all things Satanic are all part and parcel of the theatre of the genre. Some bands take it more seriously than others. The story of Jesus is therefore the most important part of this whole Black Metal puzzle. Without him the Christian movement would not exist and Satan would still be a little known word in the Hebrew language. This figure so obscured in the dust of time is probably the most famous human being of them all and he is to blame [although he would never have known it] for the evolution of half the worlds cultures.

Will be purchasing this one for sure. Love this band.

It kind of reminded me of Jesus Christ Superstar in parts! You will see what I mean. iirc "Addicted to God" was where that feeling really hit home.
