Holiday roooooAAAAAWaaahUUUUUUhwwwwuuuuOOOOoaoaoaoD!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Outkast's "Hey Ya" would be a perfect soundtrack to a party sequence in a Rodney Dangerfield movie.

earlnash, Tuesday, 10 February 2004 20:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Heh heh, always loved this song. And the weird thing is I've never seen the movie!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 20:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Not only am I a fan but I'm an owner of the original 45!

may pang (maypang), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 20:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm down.

o. nate (onate), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 21:26 (twenty-one years ago)

"Trouble" is not too shabby either -- a nice hook and a wonderful geetar solo.

d.w., Tuesday, 10 February 2004 21:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Damn Nate you need to see Vacation asap, it is funny as hell!

Jim Reckling (Jim Reckling), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 02:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Except I'm not Nate?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 03:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 03:02 (twenty-one years ago)

"holiday road" >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> "hey ya"

jody (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 03:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Obv.

Colin Beckett (Colin Beckett), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 03:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Supposedly during the height of the Mac's fame, Buckingham was completely in awe of Punk Rock and wished he could renounce himself, shave his head and join the fray.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 03:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I suppose recording "Tusk" was pretty punk for Fleetwood Mac. Camper Van Beethoven must have thought so.

earlnash, Wednesday, 11 February 2004 03:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Here's a question not quite worthy of its own thread: Which punk band do you think Buckingham would/should have joined?

jody (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 03:23 (twenty-one years ago)

In the last Mojo he expressed interest in the Clash circa the time Fleetwood was doing Tusk.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 03:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Which punk band do you think Buckingham would/should have joined?

The Dickies!

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 03:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't agree with the opening statement (I do indeed prefer "Trouble") but the song recently brightened a pal's day when I brought it up. It's a popular sentiment.

Buckingham should have produced X.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 03:24 (twenty-one years ago)

less organ solos, more clarity and audible vocals! wooo!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 03:25 (twenty-one years ago)

i KNEW someone was gonna say X...

jody (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 03:26 (twenty-one years ago)

well I didn't want to make him sell his mansion to live nearby.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 03:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Buckingham should have taken over Television, he could have gotten a reasonable haircut and even though it isn't very punk the guitar interplay would have been really wild.

He would have also given Verlaine a kick in the ass on his singing.

earlnash, Wednesday, 11 February 2004 03:29 (twenty-one years ago)

lindsey's hair has always been godlike

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 03:30 (twenty-one years ago)

It can go its own way

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 03:30 (twenty-one years ago)

buckingham should have produced the cramps' songs the lord taught us instead of alex chilton.

jody (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 03:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Buckingham should have produced The Damned's Music For Pleasure instead of Nick Mason.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 03:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Buckingham should have produced The Damned's Music For Pleasure instead of Nick Mason.

yeah! Esp. cuz either way they'd probably horrify the faithful, get dropped, and end up making Machine Gun Etiquette. It doesn't fuck up the space time continuum too much.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 03:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I still think Buckingham should've worked with Prince.

Colin Beckett (Colin Beckett), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 03:41 (twenty-one years ago)

The Dickies!

Haha brilliant!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 03:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Television - good call.

If you ever get a chance to see him on an old SNL rerun - he does killer versions of "Trouble" and "Bwana". Guitar in "Trouble" is incredible. .. and the performances come off with a early 80's punk vibe, as most things on SNL did those years. The sketches were crap, but the musical guests were brilliant. (Fear, Cap'm Beefheart, Marianne Faithful, even Jack Bruce sounded punk ...)

dave225 (Dave225), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 13:13 (twenty-one years ago)

A friend of mine ues to have the Beefheart and Replacements appearances from Saturday Night Live on tape. The Mats were blasted and could tell were wide eyed about playing on TV.

Buckingham is an underrated guitarist, he has advanced technique, but uses it for good rather than evil.

earlnash, Wednesday, 11 February 2004 13:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I always preferred June Pointers - Little Boy Sweet to Holiday Road. I mean dancing with a bologna sandwich, come on it doesn't get any better than that.

Chris V (Chris V), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 13:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Which punk band do you think Buckingham would/should have joined?

I think someone already said it, but his skills would've been best suited to Television.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

god i'm gonna go to bed tonight dreaming of buckingham in television! SWOON!

cinniblount (James Blount), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 13:37 (twenty-one years ago)

It's not too late! He should reinvent himself tomorrow. Maybe not as a member of Television, but break free of that Fleetwood Mac weight post haste.

He should call Tony Maimone and George Hurley.

dave225 (Dave225), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 13:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, he did kinda try....remember this era? (the 'erasehead' years)

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000002NJW.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 13:50 (twenty-one years ago)

He should call Tony Maimone and George Hurley.

!!!!

jody (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Go Insane (the song) is absolutely pretty good. It even references Tusk (the song)!

may pang (maypang), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 20:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Andy K (Andy K), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 20:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I wasn't trying to dampen yr enthusiasm Scott! I just thought it was funny how you & Nick both started threads with text renditions of the chorus...

Broheems (diamond), Friday, 23 April 2004 04:50 (twenty-one years ago)

It's so damn infectious! Once you have it running through your head, you can't HELP but want to render it in text format.

Scott CE (Scott CE), Friday, 23 April 2004 04:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Despite having seen the movie a few times as a kid, I actually had no idea the song was by Buckingham until nickalicious started this thread .. which is why I remembered it. But yeah, it's definitely stuck in my head now.

Broheems (diamond), Friday, 23 April 2004 04:55 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, i didn't know it was by buckingham either until i saw the video one day (noted: here); classic obv. all time school bus singalong classic.

cinniblount (James Blount), Friday, 23 April 2004 04:58 (twenty-one years ago)

"Lindsey Buckingham's "Holiday Road" is the most bestest song of all time."

this is technically not true, since "the tide is high" holds that position, but i agree with the general sentiments expressed here

amateur!st (amateurist), Friday, 23 April 2004 07:32 (twenty-one years ago)

i just downloaded this (thanks scott), and i agree that it is a song of high quality.

Lingbertt, Tuesday, 2 August 2005 06:07 (twenty years ago)

Yes!!! This is a real song!!! And it is not actually Holloway RooooOOOOooooOOOOoooooOOOOOad as we have always sung it, but still.

Masonic Boom (kate), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 07:14 (twenty years ago)

Are you sure? where did you hear it? apparently, the info on amazon is a typo, and the song is actually by some pop-punk kinda band called Limp and not Limp Bizkit.

http://limpbizkit.com/board/limpbizkit/viewtopic.asp?topicID=1577805

a few other sites say something similar.

Also, I could find the Limp version on slsk, but not the supposed Limp Bizkit version.

Lingbertt, Tuesday, 2 August 2005 07:55 (twenty years ago)

"holiday road" is still my most-played track on audioscrobbler, thanks to that time i left it (and "xanadu") on repeat all night.

What an awesome song! I didn't know Lindsey Buckingham was the guitar player from Fleetwood mac. His solo stuff is just as good if not better than the Fleetwood mac stuff. Why don't people talk more about this guy? He's like the Rodney Dangerfield of musicians. Anyway, great song and great movie.

Ismael... did you buy the standard version or the deluxe reissue? The remastered Rumors is one of the few albums I've ever heard where the remastering makes such a gigantic difference (also, it incorporates Silver Spring into the original running order).

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 20 February 2010 22:18 (fifteen years ago)

Just the standard version, the remaster was three times the price. But I can't honestly imagine the album sounding any better than it does, so now I'm intrigued. (my original disc seems like it might have acquired a couple of skips from lying about on the floor of my car, so not sure if I'll be returning the new cd or not)
