BACK TO MINE : RICHARD X
Released on DMC on April 5th.
The latest in DMC¹s acclaimed Back To Mine series comes from Richard X,creator of club land¹s best loved bootlegs in recent years, along with charthits for some of Britain¹s biggest names in pop.
With an undying affection for synth-pop, R&B and electronica, Richard X¹sflair for mixing classic 80¹s electro with R&B resulted in a series ofbootlegs that took club land by storm and brought him to the attention ofboth taste makers and the media alike. Top ten hits followed withSugababe¹s Freak Like Me (featuring Gary Numan) and Liberty X Being Nobody(a mix of Chaka Khan¹s Ain¹t Nobody and Human League¹s Being Boiled) and nowa successful solo career having recently released his debut album, ³RichardX presents his X-Factor Volume 1².
There¹s an inevitable electro pop vibe to Richard¹s selection and he hasincluded some inspired choices here from both past and present. BlackCherry, the title track from Goldfrapp¹s latest album is included along withclassic cuts from Heaven 17 (³the ex-Human League boys greatest moment²) LetMe Go, Pete Shelley¹s Homosapien (³post Buzzcock¹s Shelley¹s embracing ofthe new sounds and technology was the true spirit of punk in action²) and³new boy-in-a-bedroom synth hero² Legowelt. Not surprisingly JohnCarpenter¹s eerie soundtrack for Assault On Precinct 13, Denton & Cook¹sTomorrow¹s World Theme and Jonas Lewie¹s Always Find Me In The Kitchen AtParties with it¹s ³suitable moody synthy track² make perfect sense includedamongst this mix. And his passion for R&B is noted with tracks from KelisYoung, Fresh and New (³experimental yet totally accessible²) and a lostNeptunes classic Nivea Run Away (³The future equivalent of a SouthportWeekender will dig this up in 20 years time².)
