Cale/Bowie collaboration

I read somewhere that they spent a few days in the studio together some time in the late seventies and recorded two tracks. True? If so, did they get an official release? Are they worth tracking down?

You can hear them in Realaudio on this page:

Scroll down -- they're called "Velvet Couch" and "Piano La"

No official release, and they're not tremendously interesting.

Thanks. That's quite a page.

a pity that Bowie couldn't have helped out on Cale's Island records like Eno did -- i like Cale's production track record (just like his contributions to the 2VUs), but Eno got the nod for Bowie's holy triptych (and even some writing credits) -- Cale was a nice airbrusher of others ideas as producer, just like Eno, but i think Eno and Bowie used more ideas more often (and maybe by that stage Cale wasn't in any mood to be further 'used' ?)

maybe orchestrations & arrangements didn't pack the commercial clout of the sound effects and 'studio-as-instrument' bonie-o-schemes. imho, despite those three Island 'rock' albums i think Cale backed the wrong horse with his acoustic career, given the promise of the early collabs on the rock stuff.

Are you discussing John or J.J. Cale, here? I think John...
