.....screams the headline http://www.nme.com/news/107499.htm

Oh God No, Wednesday, 11 February 2004 20:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Garbage was still going?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 20:34 (twenty-two years ago)

"Yeah Dave? Butch here. I did you a favor once all that time ago and I need some help now that I'm a rock star. I think."

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 20:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Someone lend me Alex's nailgun...

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 20:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually this now means that there are only two male drummers in rock, Grohl and Josh Freese.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 20:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Define male.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 20:39 (twenty-two years ago)

*blinks*

yeah, i wondered if they'd ever officially shut down or not. and i don't know how i'll feel till after i hear something, i guess...

am more than slightly skeptical, but am willing to give the songs a chance to sway me. We Shall See.

[ETA: i have some news for you about Meg White, Ned... ;)]

janni (janni), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 20:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Define male.

Well, perhaps they're both smooth.

[ETA: i have some news for you about Meg White, Ned... ;)]

I didn't say anything about female drummers did I! HMPH.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 20:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Dave Grohl, best drummer ever, continues to play in shitty bands. I wonder if he'll ever play on something I can listen to that isn't Nirvana.

Stupid (Stupid), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 20:42 (twenty-two years ago)

*counting down to Alex in NYC appearing in a puff of Jaz Coleman-invoked smoke starting now...*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 20:43 (twenty-two years ago)

AJA TO THREAD ASAP PLEASE

dean! (deangulberry), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 20:43 (twenty-two years ago)

er, Ned, that was my point. XD

janni (janni), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 20:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I thank the disinterested gods for Probot, for going from Killing Joke directly to Garbage would be a too steep a downward trajectory from such a celestial height.

Honestly, it's not all that surprising....being that Garbage is ultimately still Butch Nevermind Vig's baby. I just sort've wish Dave wasn't becoming (or already is?) such, well, a whore.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 20:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sure there's lots of spluttering going on `round the Killing Joke kitchen table at this news, though.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 20:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Now if he'd just disband the Foo Fighters and become a full-time hack-for-hire.

Phil Freeman (Phil Freeman), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 20:55 (twenty-two years ago)

er, Ned, that was my point. XD

WAH WE ARE TALKING ABOUT THE SAME THING.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 20:57 (twenty-two years ago)

"Dave Grohl Steps Into Garbage" would have made a better headline.

Nom De Plume (Nom De Plume), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 21:02 (twenty-two years ago)

they asked justin mj to be the bass player but he wants to keep doing IMarobot

Pablo Cruise (chaki), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 21:03 (twenty-two years ago)

He's not JOINING Garbage, just doing a couple drum tracks. Clyde Stubblefield did some on the first album.

Too bad Smart Studios isn't up and running yet, I would have loved to run into Dave here in town.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 21:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I like Garbage very much, but I don't know why they'd need Dave Grohl to come in and play. I suppose it's nice that he lends his notable name, but he's becoming a gadfly.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 21:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd love to hear Grohl & JMJ together! They're both so Animal-from-the-Muppets!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 21:08 (twenty-two years ago)

He's not JOINING Garbage, just doing a couple drum tracks

Well, that's the same thing he did for QOTSA and Killing Joke (although he ended up, in both cases, playing on the entirety of each respective band's album).

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 21:10 (twenty-two years ago)

By the same token, hats off to the man! He's busy, successful, enthusiastic, a motherfucker of a drummer. I really have nothing bad to say about him. He also seems like a cool, knowledgable guy and a genuine fan of the musicians he's played for.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 21:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Dave Grohl is the Busta Rhymes of rock.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 21:13 (twenty-two years ago)

His quality control isn't that high.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 21:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I dunno, if I was making rock records and I was friends with Dave Grohl, I would certainly have him play on a couple tracks (being a fabulous rock drummer and all). Same thing with Clyde...if you're going to sample funk beats (inc. your own) and you're friends with the source, why not?

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 21:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually this now means that there are only two male drummers in rock, Grohl and Josh Freese.
-- Ned Raggett (ne...), February 11th, 2004 12:00 AM.

There's also Joey Waronker.

Ben Boyer (Ben Boyer), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 22:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I forgot Doktor Avalanche.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 22:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Alex OTM (well, seemingly) about Sr. Grohl.

me, i'm more wondering if this Garbage-keeping-going thing is such a good idea overall rather than wondering whether or not the Grohl guest spot is going to add or detract. again, opinion shall be forthcoming and based on the music, really.

janni (janni), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 22:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I forgot Doktor Avalanche.
Sadly, Grohl is several orders of magnitude more productive than him (and the Doktor doesn't even have to sleep!)

anode (anode), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 22:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I dunno, if I was making rock records and I was friends with Dave Grohl, I would certainly have him play on a couple tracks (being a fabulous rock drummer and all).

If I was friends with Dave Grohl I'd make him take me to the zoo, then out for ice cream afterwards! (He'd pay, of course)

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 22:27 (twenty-two years ago)

M@tt OTM.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 23:33 (twenty-two years ago)

What about Dr. Kildrums?

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 23:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know; would he pay for ice cream?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 23:40 (twenty-two years ago)

scary thought: this might actually bring on Heather The Garbage Fan's introduction to ILX.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 23:41 (twenty-two years ago)

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 23:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I wish Dave Grohl was my real Dad. He'd let me stay up late.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 23:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Dan could finally be reunited with her!

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 23:47 (twenty-two years ago)

One of many examples of a slice of life of Heather The Garbage Fan

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 23:51 (twenty-two years ago)

woah.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 23:54 (twenty-two years ago)

This is where Heather The Garbage Fan invents the word "gayonaise"

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 23:57 (twenty-two years ago)

HAHAHAHAHA So she was despised everywhere she went? AWESOME!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 12 February 2004 00:33 (twenty-two years ago)

As I, um, 'had' Kat M***o you had Heather.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 12 February 2004 00:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Surely Ally had Heather more than I did!

Wow, that doesn't look right. (Although the idea of you having Kat Marco kind of makes up for it, sorry Ally.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 12 February 2004 00:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Moderator delete brain.

That was all five years ago wasn't it? Seems like a century.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 12 February 2004 00:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Woah, I remember this Heather from when I was an 18 14-year old Garbage fan. She ran a real banging site, son.

Leee Majors (Leee), Thursday, 12 February 2004 01:00 (twenty-two years ago)

AHA! Your awful past unveiled. (But I kid etc.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 12 February 2004 01:01 (twenty-two years ago)

let's kill the teeny's too.

booooooo.

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 12 February 2004 01:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, you're the Good Teeny, as opposed to the evil.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 12 February 2004 01:15 (twenty-two years ago)

AJA TO THREAD ASAP PLEASE
-- dean! (dea...), February 11th, 2004.

Sorry I took so long.

I don't know what to think of this. I'll have to hear the first single from this album before I can really have any kind of oppinion.

Aja (aja), Thursday, 12 February 2004 04:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Grohl has always said that he wants to quit touring by the time he's 35. (And he's what, like 37 now). He wants to be married, have kids, be at home...and what better way to do all that (and still make the big bucks) than to be a studio musician AND producer? It's all about the benjamins.

Playa Hata, Thursday, 12 February 2004 05:15 (twenty-two years ago)

He's thirty five now. He probably will stop touring eventually but I think he'll always have something to do with somebody's album. He's also married, for the second time.

Aja (aja), Thursday, 12 February 2004 05:21 (twenty-two years ago)

He's thirty five now. He probably will stop touring eventually

Jesus. Ya make it sound like he's in his autumn years. THIRTY FIVE IS NOT OLD!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 12 February 2004 14:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Heather the Garbage Fan was truly my fault, not poor Dan's. I was the one who crossposted a thread titled "PUSH IT REALLY FUCKING SUCKS" to the Garbage ng.

Allyzay, Thursday, 12 February 2004 14:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't seem to remember her. Does she predate my appearance?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 12 February 2004 14:57 (twenty-two years ago)

She was on alt.music.alternative back in Them Nineties.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 12 February 2004 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

was this person truly horrifying? enough to be an ILM touchstone? ;)

janni (janni), Thursday, 12 February 2004 16:19 (twenty-two years ago)

An a.m.a. touchstone, yes -- those of us who migrated over brought the fear with us. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 12 February 2004 16:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Meat Beat Manifesto - "I Got The Fear (Go Listen To Puff Daddy mix)"

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 12 February 2004 16:30 (twenty-two years ago)

when did he get remarried?

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Thursday, 12 February 2004 16:49 (twenty-two years ago)

HEY I HAVE A SCREAM 7" ON SOME GERMAN LABEL IS IT WORTH ANYTHING?

Jon Williams (ex machina), Thursday, 12 February 2004 19:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Dave Grohl is a loony who believes that HIV does not lead to AIDS. Fine drummer though.

mentalist (mentalist), Friday, 13 February 2004 06:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Where's the origin of that little nugget of slander?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 13 February 2004 06:49 (twenty-two years ago)

It's not slander, it is very well known.

Try this link for once.

mentalist (mentalist), Friday, 13 February 2004 09:00 (twenty-two years ago)

ermm, i mean, for instance

mentalist (mentalist), Friday, 13 February 2004 12:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmmmm. Interesting, although it does place most of the blame on Foos' bassist, Nate Mendel....and, y'know, who cares about him anyway?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 13 February 2004 14:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Well he's entitled to his misinformed opinion and all.

It is more worrying that South African president Thabo Mbeki believes in the same or similar ideas and they have informed the govt's policy responses to the disease that is the largest killer of people in his country.

Anyhow, Dave Grohl, ace drummer

mentalist (mentalist), Friday, 13 February 2004 15:53 (twenty-two years ago)

It is kinda shocking, honestly. As you say, he's certainly entitled to his opinons, but he/they should also remember the influence their opinions have. I'm not enough of a conspiracy theorist to second guess conventional wisdom or western medicine's handling of the AIDS crisis, but it's clearly a hot button topic....one that perhaps they should do more research on before espousing arguably "radical" theories that contradict the establlished treatment.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 13 February 2004 15:57 (twenty-two years ago)
