On the very excellent 'Metal Sludge' site great hilarity is made of a hopeless hair-metal-turned-nu-metal LA band whose guitarist is exposed herein as having shaved ten years off his age. OK, everybody lies, but TEN YEARS! Heh. (I think JAMC did a similar thing). Is this justified though? Is the need to appear alot younger than one is pure vanity, or rueful acknowledgement of the inevitable loss of youthful fire and fury?

Also, is it more pathetic/common/defensible/indefensible for men to lie about their age than women, and if so, why?

I'm 43.

I think it's more acceptable for men because the only point in being a female musician is to be shaggable, surely? Bugger. I'm not going on tour, guys, I'm quitting the band...

Hmmm. I don't know anything about this case, but would the age- shaving have put him under thirty when he started playing music? I'm told that it's almost impossible to get a music career started if you begin it if you're over thirty.

This statement seems pretty accurate. I mean, "a music career", isn't that something for nubile girls anyway?

Well, I haven't been nubile for some time. I've been married for eight years. (Hint--look up "nubile" in the dictionary :-)) Yeah, I've also noticed that everyone hitting the charts lately seems to be barely old enough to shave.
