enough about Outkast finishing #1, what about Ryan Adams finishing #48?

how many answering machine threats did it take to get him that high?

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 12 February 2004 06:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I kept calling and telling him to sniff that glue.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 12 February 2004 06:17 (twenty-two years ago)

you're very persuasive

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 12 February 2004 06:19 (twenty-two years ago)

You should hear my meaty chortle, it really got him going.

I think Ryan Adams is the fucking go-to guy for aging middle-of-the-road critics. Rock N Roll is almost unlistenable, but I read so many glowing reviews. Whatever cachet he derived from Whiskeytown and Heartbreaker has coaxed him through three shitty albums and two godawful EPs.

Christian Rawk (Christian Rawk), Thursday, 12 February 2004 07:13 (twenty-two years ago)

But I still think he's wonderful. Must be the tousled hair and rolled-out-of-bed chic.

That sounds like a conversation between myself and my roommate.

I kept reading that Rock N Roll was his big pop sell-out move. If anything was going to make my want to listen to Ryan Adams that would have been it but then he made the mistake of releasing a single and I heard it. :(

I AM SITTING HERE IN ENGLAND AND I DONT EVEN RECOGNISE OUR TOP TEN, UNDER THE MARSHALLING OF BBC RADIO 2 AND THROUGH THE POCKETS OF ITS MIDDLE AGED AND CONSERVATIVE/UNINFORMED AUDIENCE THE CHARTS HAVE BECOME A HAVEN FOR SIXTEEN YEAR OLDS WITH GLOOMY OUTLOOKS AND CERRYWOOD GUITARS,(SO CALLED REAL MUSIC) ITS REPRESSING. SO PLEASE TO ALL OF YOU WHO ARE BITCHING ABOUT RYAN ADAMS JUST REMEMBER IT COULD BE A WHOLE LOT WORSE (AND YES I HAVE HEARD HIS MUSIC, AND YOU ARE RIGHT HE DOES REALLY SUCK)

Loved "Gold."

Liked "Demolition."

Pretty much slept through "Rock N Roll." I'm surprised it ranked as high as it did.

Joseph McCombs, Thursday, 12 February 2004 13:46 (twenty-two years ago)

perhaps Ryan Adams was the token white-bread act from all the popists?

My Huckleberry Friend (Horace Mann), Thursday, 12 February 2004 14:34 (twenty-two years ago)

He was the token country choice for those who want their country music to sound like U2.

I'd love to bang Parkey Posey.

TS: Being Ryan Adams for a day vs. listening to Ryan Adams all day

(I'm so voting for being)

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 12 February 2004 19:43 (twenty-two years ago)
