You need to know that Oakley Hall is the shit

Yeah, I'm friends with some of them, so this isn't exactly an unbiased opinion, but I'm serious -- anything that calls itself "alt-country" can eat a dick, this is hard, loose, honky-tonk acid music, and I want to give them their due here. If anyone else has seen them, or heard the record on Bulb, feel free to give love here. Or let this thread die, but it's your loss.

Anyone?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 12 February 2004 19:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah, well. I tried. They play mostly in the south and east, so you're probably out of luck, Ned, unless you hear the record. They play it a lot on WFMU out here, but that's about it. Anyway, I saw them play last night in NYC, and it was a tremendous, wall-of-sound, swinging and hollering thing. Fuzzed out organ, two steel guitars, three guitars, fiddle, everybody singing, just tremendous. Return of cosmic country.

Papa Crazee from Oneida?

Rock Bastard, Thursday, 12 February 2004 19:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, all nine fingers of him -- singing, playing guitar and organ.

They love Pittsburgh(at least PCRZ does, don't know about anyone else in the band)and put on great shows. Crazee also wrote a wonderful article on Rickety Records in Index magazine--couldn't get anything like that in the local press.

I'm sorry...I just see the name and immediately think "Hall & Oates."

Not that it's a bad thing, mind you. But hearing the band would be a real comedown.

Not much sonic overlap, that's a fact. Plus, Oakley Hall seem to be entirely mustache-free.
