My Huckleberry Friend (Horace Mann), Thursday, 12 February 2004 19:43 (twenty-two years ago)

can't spell tweedy without twee

dean! (deangulberry), Thursday, 12 February 2004 22:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Back in the day, he used to chew tobacco (but I imagine he's long since quit)

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Thursday, 12 February 2004 22:31 (twenty-two years ago)

His "last name" is actually a nickname he picked up in high school, where he'd always wear tweed coats and not talk to anyone, instead sittingsilently with his headphones on, pretending to listen to the Minutemen and Merle Haggard. One day someone in one of his classes referred to him as "that pale, tweedy kid in the corner" and the name stuck.

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 12 February 2004 22:34 (twenty-two years ago)

he's nicer than ryan adams. but they both make boring, limp music.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Thursday, 12 February 2004 22:38 (twenty-two years ago)

He is an American aquarium drinker. And you know what that means.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Thursday, 12 February 2004 23:19 (twenty-two years ago)

He shops at Trader Joe's.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 12 February 2004 23:40 (twenty-two years ago)

the yankee hotel foxtrot controversy was the lamest ever, but not as lame as the record itself.

keith m (keithmcl), Friday, 13 February 2004 00:07 (twenty-two years ago)

you should never confuse him with dwight twilley. he hates that.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 13 February 2004 00:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Paradox.

7809, Friday, 13 February 2004 00:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I liked that record.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Friday, 13 February 2004 00:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Me too

roger adultery (roger adultery), Friday, 13 February 2004 00:33 (twenty-two years ago)

it was the lamest controversy, but records can still be more lame than controversies.

keith m (keithmcl), Friday, 13 February 2004 00:40 (twenty-two years ago)

There's a lot of Tweedy-hating on this board, but I like Wilco a lot (they get called "Dad-rock" a lot). The "More Like the Moon" e.p. is really excellent.
Wilco played a live-on-the-radio set at my old job and they were all really, really nice.

Ben Boyer (Ben Boyer), Friday, 13 February 2004 00:41 (twenty-two years ago)

He is trying to break your heart, yet he is the man that loves you

Sym (shmuel), Friday, 13 February 2004 04:37 (twenty-two years ago)

ten years pass...

god his show last night sucked so bad. oh my god. played the whole new Tweedy record, musical anesthesia, played a handful of 'the hits,' seemed like he was half-assing it, just awful, the vibe in the room was antiseptic, probably the first time i've ever felt cheated out of my money by a bad concert, especially since the show was advertised as a solo show until last week.... fucking hell...

Isn't one of his kids playing with him on this solo tour? I saw him solo many years ago and liked the show, but have lost interest in he and Wilco since then. I liked when he co-write songs circa Summerteeth that had a more garage-pop falvor.

curmudgeon, Tuesday, 10 June 2014 18:23 (eleven years ago)

i was kinda interested in the new "solo" band because he has james elkington playing guitar with him. shoow here: http://www.nyctaper.com/

tylerw, Tuesday, 10 June 2014 18:36 (eleven years ago)

yeah his kid plays drums, he's good, but the songs are soul-suckingly boring MOR crap. complete CRAP!!! i really only like YHF & AGIB & half of Summerteeth tbh but I adore those records and still play them regularly. tuned out of wilco's new stuff after the similarly snoozy Sky Blue Sky.

about half of Wilco: The Album was really solid pop, but all the more 'experimental' numbers were duds imo

bernard snowy, Tuesday, 10 June 2014 18:52 (eleven years ago)

interesting, cause Wilco is one of the best live acts i've seen (last show was 8 years ago..)

nostormo, Tuesday, 10 June 2014 18:56 (eleven years ago)

Elkington + Darin Gray = I'm going to this. They could do all Doobie Brothers covers for all I care. That's a helluva band right there.

Jimmywine Dyspeptic, Tuesday, 10 June 2014 22:40 (eleven years ago)

yeah and his son has been taking lessons from kotche for years iirc, so he can probably hold his own!
i don't know, just sampling some of that NYC taper set, it sounds aight to me.

tylerw, Tuesday, 10 June 2014 22:44 (eleven years ago)

Still like seeing Kotche's Kohl's commercial; liked his On Fillmore album too. Ah, Wilco---long as they've got Cline, the Paul Simonesque balladry is tolerable, and much more so live, esp. when they leaven it with Mermaid Avenue material. Their all-Woody Newport set, for his birthday, was often exhilarating; sure hope to find the whole thing online someday. Meanwhile, here's a rollercoaster ride:

three weeks pass...

I have pretty bad bronchitis at the moment so surely my judgement is clouded by hey I enjoyed Summer Noon. As a warning, I'll say that I did enjoy some parts of The Whole Love.
