Once More, With Feeling - what the devil is the power the soundtrack has got?!??!

yes, i refer to the Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode.

for some reason, although i didn't mind sitting through the episode itself once, i don't think i'd want to sit through it again. furthermore, i didn't understand why this was so heavily hyped.

however, listening to the soundtrack by itself is for some reason quite soothing. i can't quite explain it. the singing is mostly awful, and the songs themselves aren't much better, and despite amusement and cooing at the Willow/Taraness...i just can't explain it at all.

it's not even a guilty pleasure thing. this is beyond that, the power this has got over me at this moment. can someone please explain this to me?

i mean, i feel i should be getting a toothache, at the very least...

Does Buffy's autotuning sound as bad on the cd as it did on the tv janni?

maybe that's it! i don't think it does, although i don't know that i'd be willing to sit through the TV ep again to make sure. to me, she just sounds like some random girl out of any number of musical theatre productions i've seen. not professional, but not completely tuneless and tone-deaf, at least.

Did you ever read Mark Sinker's article about that episode? It was really great. I don't even like the show, and have barely watched more than a few bits of it here and there, but the article was excellent criticism. Still didn't make me want to watch the show, but a thought-provoking read.
