Actually I like both of these, Trouble's later albums are better produced and written by the earlier stuff is more demented, Xtian Sab Division (they denied being Xtians but were neurotic about profanity when I met them), and they're still unfairly neglected, unlike Vitus who have that SST cred.

fuck everyone, it's vitus. VITUS. that monolithic, slabby, mind- numbingly simple, stoned, fried, muddy, crap guitar sound. their first album is monstrously heavy, stupid metal crap that accentuated everything you wanted to hear from 70s metal (magic! zombies!) and cut out the bullshit. they also did one of the best fucking songs ever with wino - "i bleed black," which features the classic line "nobody dares to care - i can tell by their eyes/they're just a bunch of fuckin' UNAWARE SQUARES."

trouble = christian led zeppelin imitations. "psychotic reaction" wasn't even a count five cover.

five years pass...
Anyone seen Trouble in recent years? They're about to go on tour...I'm trying to decide whether it's worth it to go see them.

The answer is Trouble, no trouble. I never saw what was so great about Vitus, SST cred or not. Second-rate Black Cheer with a more plodding rhythm section and nothing to say. Killer guitar tones but little to support it. And a laughable singer (altho Wino was better than the original guy.)

Love both.

one year passes...

i'm playing manic frustration now and it's kicking my ass. 'come touch the sky' is one delirious cracker of an opening tune

I like both but this is clearly Trouble. I'm even digging the new one so far. and they were incredible live a few weeks ago.

Fell down a wiki hole as I revisited Trouble—a band I loved as a teen but haven’t listened to in 20+ years. Apparently the singer died of Covid last year.
