VOM=classic and the only reason to buy the Tropic Of Nipples cd on Off Records -- cuz god knows the smegma/pollard collaborations suck -- but the VOM stuff tacked on is great.

is there any other stuff available?

this is Metal Mike's old band, right? Or Meltzer's? Anyhow does it sound anything like the Angry Samoans?

There were some live tracks on s l s k . They were great, more the speed of Angry Samoans than early VOM. Good performances.

Both. And yes, though a slightly less hookwise and riffwise/more seemingly "hardcore" (though hardcore didn't actually much exist yet then) version of real early Samoans stuff. In fact the Samoans redid a few of the songs, including I believe "Electrocute Your Cock," "Too Animalistic," and "I'm In Love With Your Mom." Which blows "Stacy's Mom" out of the water, by the way.

The Nipples CD also has "Punk Mobile." The thing missing is "Save the Whales."

And there was a boot of the original vinyl being sold on EBay for a bit very recently. There still may be copies floating around.

The original cover art on the boot is done away with, replaced by a short Turner-attributed rant which ignores Meltzer and includes a diatribe about Metal Mike and former bandmates.

Both releases are disappointing in that there's little or no recap of Vom's brief history, which was amusing. I had a glossy magazine called "New Wave Rock" which lasted perhaps only for another issue with a "feature" story on Vom. Included pictures of one of the band's more infamous performances at an LA landmark venue, a show where they were booted from the stage for some minor transgression by today's punk standards.

And the Village Voice published a long feature by Meltzer called "Summer Means Vom." I've never seen it reprinted anywhere and it is not in Meltzer's "Whore" omnibus.

has anyone seen that Angry Samoans DVD?

two years pass...
I was the co-producer/AD of The Angry Samoans' Vid "Time Has Come Today" which made it to second tier rotation on early MTV. Richard Meltzer, the critic, was lead singer for VOM and the band featured Angry Sams folks. Richard Casey, whom I worked with/for on the Sams Vid, had done all the Voms Rock Vids(very good ones, Richard Meltzer wears his underware on his head for one song.) Richard and I went onto do 16 rock vids together (Blue Oyster Cult, Buck Dharma, Romeo Void etc.) AFter that Richard made two low budget horror flics and a doc about Kenji Shibuya and then sort of became an editor. I became a producer for Chestnut HIll Productions (VI Warshawski, Blind Side, Foxfire, State of Emergency etc.)
The Vom vids were artsy-punk terrific (as was Casey's vid of Joan Crawford Has Risen from the Grave.)
