Arguably the winners so far have ended up aimed at the same demographic anyway - no solo Pop Idol/Fame Academy winner has gone down a remotely uptempo route. Will Young is currently singing jazz-flavoured mid-tempo pop, Alex Parks is retreading Annie Lennox's solo career, I can't see Michelle McManus doing anything which requires her to dance. Mid-tempo is where it is apparently at.
