Roger T (Roger T), Monday, 16 February 2004 15:45 (twenty-two years ago)

i remixed an Eminem track with Betty Boo once. it's true.

Betty is UBER. i still have the Doin' the Do 7"

g-kit (g-kit), Monday, 16 February 2004 15:48 (twenty-two years ago)

dud

there. that may be the only time you see that word on this thread. (i lover her really)

stevem (blueski), Monday, 16 February 2004 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

the british linda perry!

cinniblount (James Blount), Monday, 16 February 2004 16:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I dig "Doin' the Doo" and "Where Are You Baby," but that's all I'm familiar with. What else should I look for?

Jazzbo (jmcgaw), Monday, 16 February 2004 16:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I find it insulting that this question is even being asked. Classic, obviously. The zenith of late 80s/early 90s pop, probably.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 16 February 2004 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)

The only artist to sample "Pet Sounds", on "Take you there"...

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 16 February 2004 16:39 (twenty-two years ago)

oi, zenith is my word! you can have apex.

i actually didn't like any of her stuff at the time apart from the Beatmasters track which featured some good lyrics and delivery from the lass.

stevem (blueski), Monday, 16 February 2004 16:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Jazzbo - most U&K is "Hey DJ (I Can't Dance To That Music You're Playing)" which was by Beatmasters feat. Betty Boo.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 16 February 2004 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

What else should I look for?

To begin with, check out her debut Boomania. Available at a bargainbin near you.

I find it insulting that this question is even being asked

I agree and bow my head in shame. But be assured, I only wanted to see a thread entirely dedicated to dear Alison.

Roger T (Roger T), Monday, 16 February 2004 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

get everything you can jazzbo, including 'let me take you there' and 'hangover' which both scale dizzy new heights/depths of tweerama, kinda

stevem (blueski), Monday, 16 February 2004 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

"Boomania" album- Classic!!!

Everything after that- Dud!!!!!!!!!

Old Fart!!! (oldfart_sd), Monday, 16 February 2004 16:57 (twenty-two years ago)

was there anything after boomania ? and Doing the Do .. top classic. its just stands out on any mixtape and makes you smile.

mark e (mark e), Monday, 16 February 2004 21:30 (twenty-two years ago)

most U&K is "Hey DJ (I Can't Dance To That Music You're Playing)" which was by Beatmasters feat. Betty Boo.

Tico OTM... the Razormaid remix is XTRA U&K.

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 16 February 2004 21:31 (twenty-two years ago)

was there anything after boomania ?

Yep, second album Grrrrrrrr! It's Betty Boo. A bit more polished in sound, but still fun.

Roger T (Roger T), Monday, 16 February 2004 21:34 (twenty-two years ago)

She has never done anything wrong in her whole life EVER

Alex in Doncaster (Alex in Doncaster), Monday, 16 February 2004 21:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, playbacking at live concert... ;-)
By the by, did any of you Englishmen catch her on The Who's Albert Hall concerts?

Roger T (Roger T), Monday, 16 February 2004 21:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes she has. She presented Top Ten something or other with Cerys Matthews, and presenting Top Ten anything is a bit wrong. Other than that, ace to the zillionth.

(xpost)

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 16 February 2004 21:42 (twenty-two years ago)

All these fragments of apparent misfortune merely add to her legend. Even Pure & Simple does not detract from her majesty (it's quite good)

Alex in Doncaster (Alex in Doncaster), Monday, 16 February 2004 21:57 (twenty-two years ago)

It's Hear'Say's best single anyhow.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 16 February 2004 22:01 (twenty-two years ago)

How about this one: she did very wrong in not releasing a third album. (I'm serious here.)

Roger T (Roger T), Monday, 16 February 2004 22:05 (twenty-two years ago)

ah, well, GRANTED

Alex in Doncaster (Alex in Doncaster), Monday, 16 February 2004 22:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I have no clue who this is.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Monday, 16 February 2004 22:32 (twenty-two years ago)

wrote a couple of tracks on the girls aloud album and, if the rumours are true, did alot of the singing on the record too.

Classic for these lines at least:

"boy i really miss you, and all i wanna do is kiss you
i've used up all my tissues, cos theres more seriouser issues"

jed_ (jed), Monday, 16 February 2004 22:35 (twenty-two years ago)

can someone post a pic cos she sure was fit if memory serves!

'Yes she has. She presented Top Ten something or other with Cerys Matthews, and presenting Top Ten anything is a bit wrong. Other than that, ace to the zillionth.'

They snogged for like, 10 seconds. Oh it was classic my friend.

pete s, Monday, 16 February 2004 23:05 (twenty-two years ago)

One of the best looking people ever.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 16 February 2004 23:08 (twenty-two years ago)

(I liked Doin the Do too!)

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 16 February 2004 23:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I'M ON MY WAY! Lady Madonna-interpolating and with SILLY SILLY FUN RAP! One of the very, very best singles released by anyone ever.

Grrr! It's Betty Boo! is a much better album than Boomania... it features her only ever shit ballad "Hangover" which is in fact extremely UN-shit, and is also rather brilliant.

"Catch Me", "Skin Tight", "Gave You The Boo" all great album tracks too.

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 04:28 (twenty-two years ago)

There is none more classic. "Doin' The Do" is the best single of whatever decade it was released in, I forget which it was.

That said, "Boomania!" isn't as perfect as has been suggested. "Doin' The Do", "Where Are You Baby?" and "I Can't Dance" are the only really essential tracks, but non-ownership in some form of those should be punishable by Stereophonics.

I doubt she sang much if any of the GA album because she was never *that* great a singer, not up to the GA ladeez' standards.

Nick H (Nick H), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 16:22 (twenty-two years ago)

that looks more like Emma B ("I'm fascinated by your love boy") than Betty Boo in those pics

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 16:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Played Grrr in work today and everybody else hated it.

mei (mei), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 19:55 (twenty-two years ago)

What do they normally like?

Anyway, C L A S S I C !

I'm going to have to look for GRRRRR! I haven't ever heard it because the concensus was that it wasn't GRRRRREAT, but I love Boomania.

I did read in one of the broadsheets a couple of years ago that she was fed up with making somgs for other people and was considering a new solo career. We can only hope.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 21:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Rumour has it that she's working on a new album under her own name. Exit Betty, enter Alison.

Roger T (Roger T), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 21:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Rumour? Unless that is STONE COLD TRUTH I am going to cry uncontrollably. Hopefully, she will return SO amazing that even "Love Bomb" sounds like a cast-off B-side.

Pop needs Betty Boo. Or at the very least, pop needs Betty Boo to write songs for Nicola Roberts' solo career if it happens.

edward o (edwardo), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 05:08 (twenty-two years ago)

A comeback is mentioned here and a very informative article here. Both writings are a couple a years old already thou...

Roger T (Roger T), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 08:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Would I be being redundant just by echoing how classic she is?

Barima (Barima), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 18:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Yo! I'd give her one.

C-Man (C-Man), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 18:37 (twenty-two years ago)

You could at least have been amusing and said you'd Doo her.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Thursday, 19 February 2004 05:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Or, she's my Boo.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Thursday, 19 February 2004 05:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Or just anything of any note, just for once, please.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Thursday, 19 February 2004 05:36 (twenty-two years ago)

six years pass...

Years ago a friend went to the UK and brought me back the "Doin' The Do" maxi-single, mostly good, but the great one on there was the one non-"Doin' The Do" track, "Shame (Hoodlum Mix)." Was going to post it from YouTube without comment, but it's not on there.

pop needs Betty Boo to write songs for Nicola Roberts' solo career if it happens.

this still applies btw.

eleven years pass...

A post and video that by themselves justify twitter/the internet/human civilisation

The time I met @PublicEnemyFTP in McDonald’s on Shepherds Bush Green in 87! We’d just seen them playing a Def Jam gig so went in & said hello & the next thing I know we’re rapping with them & Professor Griff is beatboxing! The restaurant manager wasn’t so keen & kicked us out! 🤣 pic.twitter.com/1yL20Uwqbj
