Sheep On Drugs: Classic or Dud?

The Bald one, the Marilyn in Crack Hell one, the low-rent schlock-horror 'industrial' rave music, the nasty, nasel, whiney 'ooh, I'm debauched me!' lyrics... ahhh, it takes me back. The good old days.

So, King Duncan and Dead Lee (= Ace! crap names!): finishing the job that (the brilliant) Alien Sex Fiend started?
Or not really.

New answers, new schmanswers I say.

They were to Soft Cell what Dead Or Alive were to Culture Club... except 10 years too late. Oops!

Brian MacDonald, Saturday, 6 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

they were rubbish

SOD are aces! Fun-Goth-Industrial! I wish I could see them again. As far as i've heard the gave some shows in 2002 in the UK, but theis year a world wide tour is under preparation!

wholy fuck
i've tried so hard to forget about ever owning that album

dyson (dyson), Friday, 7 February 2003 07:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Dyson hates goth-fun!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 7 February 2003 12:37 (twenty-two years ago)

They're still going. One of them, Ross, is my old neighbour.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 7 February 2003 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

!!!!!

Again you have me gooning in your general direction with envy, Suzy.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 7 February 2003 13:38 (twenty-two years ago)

the child-friendly daytime all-video programme "The Chart Show" shortened their name to Sheep.

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 7 February 2003 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Saw them in 1993 when they played LA. I had a good time and I do have that album around here somewhere. The Soft Cell comparison is spot on.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 7 February 2003 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Dan, check yr. inbox...

suzy (suzy), Friday, 7 February 2003 18:52 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't hate fun goth. i just regret it.

dyson (dyson), Friday, 7 February 2003 21:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Never heard of the band, but sheep on drugs are of course classic...

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Friday, 7 February 2003 23:15 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
I pulled "greatest hits" out of the pile thee other day, and have been listening to it a bit. Salute the lyrical genius of king duncan:

"suffer little children/
in your skyscraper hell/
on crack cocaine/
while popstars drive fast cars/
and drink champagne"

"take the early train/
to an early grave"

"my car is fast and it's big/
it's one heck of a pig/
it's a beast/
get in!/
I'm heading west
we take a ride/
we're out of sight/
we're beautiful/
we look just right"

"lick the sheen of my screen/
taste my gasoline"

etc etc etc

Sheep on drugs were TERRIBLE, but GREAT at the same time. In my dreams, king duncan MEANT EVERY WORD!!

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 6 May 2004 13:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Plus, a friend of mine went to see them back when they were "active" and managed to wangle his way back to the hotel afterwards!! he was expecting DEPRAVED PERVY PHUN, but instead, duncan x and lee 303 merely drank some tea, and went to bed!!

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 6 May 2004 13:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Now that's a good story. Perhaps it is time for a relisten. Had they emerged a couple of years back, they could have given Fischerspooner a run for the nonexistent money.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 6 May 2004 13:50 (twenty-one years ago)

An excellent point, Ned!!

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 6 May 2004 13:52 (twenty-one years ago)

five years pass...

I brought Double Trouble and One For The Money to work with me today

I had forgotten how much I liked "Come Fly With Me"

Marriage, that's where I'm a Viking! (HI DERE), Wednesday, 28 April 2010 17:33 (fifteen years ago)

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 28 April 2010 17:35 (fifteen years ago)

Had anyone other than Dan revived this thread I would have been shocked.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 28 April 2010 17:35 (fifteen years ago)

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 28 April 2010 17:41 (fifteen years ago)

I liked TV USA back in the day but never listened to anything else by them. I still have that single though.

a fucking stove just fell on my foot. (Colonel Poo), Wednesday, 28 April 2010 18:20 (fifteen years ago)

fifteen years pass...

Really enjoy that strangely Detroit-ish passage on the first album that repeatedly pairs a distorted voice going 'sheep on drugs' with polite cricket applause.

There's also 'Motorbike' which puts horse neighing over acidy driving music 17 years before the Chems. These lads would really shine on a 'Collision Pop Nuggets' compilation.

you can see me from westbury white horse, Saturday, 13 September 2025 23:43 (one month ago)

I forgot about this band … totally jammed it next to Thrill Kill Kult and Alien Sex Fiend

sarahell, Saturday, 13 September 2025 23:56 (one month ago)

ha I was going to say I love the TV USA single but I have already said this, 15 years ago

in the interim I have listened to more of their stuff and they do have some ok songs but I think they sold more t-shirts than records

actually I do like Motorbike tbf

Colonel Poo, Sunday, 14 September 2025 01:19 (one month ago)
