Sexy prog songs

This is the thread where we let Prog, possibly the most unsexy of all genres, be sexy as fuck. The only tracks I can think of are:

King Crimson: Ladies Of The Road
Stephen Malkmus: Vanessa From Queens

any more?

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 16 February 2004 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

in what way is "vanessa from queens" prog?

jody (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 16 February 2004 17:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Ach, I dunno, the more I listen to Pig Lib, the more I think of it as a prog album. Maybe not so much Vanessa From Queens, but there are a multitude of proggy tracks on the album and then I thought about something you said on another thread about it being MAlkums's most sexy outing. I guess that and the Craw Song kind of spawned this thread.

The enitirety of Genesis' "Trick of the Tail" is very good for ahem getting it on to in ahem my/our experience.

Thinking Plague - "Love"

(Original post: Well, I guess "The Musical Box" is supposed to be about a bizarre sexual advance, not that I actually find it sexy or anything. Er, does "The Rain Song" count for anything? Hmm, some of the female RIO singers do have a certain charm if not exactly sexy as fuck: U Totem's "One Nail Draws Another" or Thinking Plague's "Love"? Actually the latter probably comes closest of any of these.)

sundar subramanian (sundar), Monday, 16 February 2004 18:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Sundar, which T'Plague alb. is "Love" from?

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Monday, 16 February 2004 19:27 (twenty-two years ago)

In This Life

sundar subramanian (sundar), Monday, 16 February 2004 19:29 (twenty-two years ago)

"Matte Kudasai" -- King Crimson

Nom De Plume (Nom De Plume), Monday, 16 February 2004 19:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not clear on the meaning of "Sexy" - like, lyrically sexy or just ?primally sexy?

I say King Crimson's "The Talking Drum" low-frequency, rising intensity, + squealing.

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 16 February 2004 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Asphalt Life- Suede

A Wyck, Tuesday, 17 February 2004 19:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Genesis' I Know What I Like has an actual ass shakin' groove going on and mentions wardrobes, the way people walk, and mowing lawns. I mean, rowr.

Kim (Kim), Friday, 20 February 2004 17:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Can -- Halleluwah, the most ass-grindingly sexy beast of a beat EVER.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Friday, 20 February 2004 17:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Friday, 20 February 2004 17:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Genesis' "The Musical Box" = very sexy rowr.

Magma's "Spiritual" and "Udu Wudu" because of (Ahnold voice on) da sexee female vohcals.

Joe (Joe), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 03:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I am deeply deeply disturbed that all these people think Genesis is sexy.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 05:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, jeez, easy..

Gong "Witch's Song: I Am Your Pussy"

Vintage Latin (dog latin), Sunday, 5 February 2006 15:50 (twenty years ago)

i now recant that years old Genesis statement (just to make Sundar happy)

but would anyone accept some Roxy Music as prog? if yes, i'd go with Amazona.

Kim (Kim), Sunday, 5 February 2006 16:08 (twenty years ago)

In the bizarro world, the answer to this thread is "Counting Out Time". In the un-bizarro world, "Close To The Edge" is apparently a good answer, because it gave young men enough time to do the deed without having to get up and switch tracks.

Deluxe (Damian), Sunday, 5 February 2006 17:57 (twenty years ago)

I didnt' think there was any question that Roxy Music were prog!
Why, because their LP covers featured hot babes rather than Roger Dean landscapes?

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Sunday, 5 February 2006 23:14 (twenty years ago)

"Counting Out Time" might be sexy to these guys:

http://www.uruk-hai.info/form.html

Joe (Joe), Sunday, 5 February 2006 23:22 (twenty years ago)

well, i suppose hot babes drawn by Roger Dean might've been a little bit wrong.

really, the reason i doubted myself there is a lot of their stuff definitely doesn't fall into the prog category, i mean, you can DANCE to it, so they're not what i would've thought to call a prog band full stop. but perhaps some of it is close enough to not be called anything else.

Kim (Kim), Sunday, 5 February 2006 23:50 (twenty years ago)

Jenny Haan of Babe Ruth to thread.

xhuxk, Monday, 6 February 2006 00:04 (twenty years ago)

A PLACE TO SURVIVE BY VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR

shadeball (chaki), Monday, 6 February 2006 00:08 (twenty years ago)

eight years pass...

The only sexy songs in this thread are the ones OP suggested and one of them is not even by a prog band. Anyhoo, here's some I think could be good but haven't tried them myself:

Captain Beefheart - Observatory Crest (yeah, I know, not really a prog artist)
The Torture Never Stops by Zappa

Moka, Thursday, 8 January 2015 20:09 (eleven years ago)

Crimson, Easy Money

akm, Thursday, 8 January 2015 20:16 (eleven years ago)

there's a ton of crossover between prog and jazz fusion, and jazz fusion can get seriously sexy. like, i'm sure there are folks who will tell you the below ain't prog, but i'm not one of them.

rushomancy, Thursday, 8 January 2015 23:22 (eleven years ago)

I'd say the obvious track not yet mentioned is "The Great Gig in the Sky" by Pink Floyd.

earlnash, Friday, 9 January 2015 22:20 (eleven years ago)

A Taste Of My Love, by Emerson Lake and Palmer. You will not believe your ears. It will dynamite your mind with love tonight.

I prog to fuck but I don't fuck to prog.

walid foster dulles (man alive), Saturday, 10 January 2015 02:32 (eleven years ago)

xp that cover is dynamiting my eyes with love pants

never have i been a blue calm sea (collardio gelatinous), Saturday, 10 January 2015 05:09 (eleven years ago)

but yes to the comment abt jazz fusion earlier. if we allow our proggers to cheat a little by toying with "the music", all bets are off.

soft machine, "slightly all the time", for exxxample:

never have i been a blue calm sea (collardio gelatinous), Saturday, 10 January 2015 05:14 (eleven years ago)

some lyrics from that ELP song, ftr:

Oh, you look so hungry, woman
How come you strayed in here
With your eyes so bright
On this long hot night

Could it be for a taste of my love

Down on your knees
With your face to the wall
Saying please, please, please
My friend said I should call

Well, I do feel lonely, woman
And to tell the truth
I could use some company
So come closer to me

Help yourself to a taste of my love

Call up room service
Order peaches and cream
I like my dessert first
If you know what I mean

contenderizer, Saturday, 10 January 2015 05:22 (eleven years ago)

Sounds progressive to me

never have i been a blue calm sea (collardio gelatinous), Saturday, 10 January 2015 05:24 (eleven years ago)

After Love Beach the raccoon tanukis of the prog world must have been like: what happened to all the astronomically / medievally conscious prog bands?

never have i been a blue calm sea (collardio gelatinous), Saturday, 10 January 2015 05:32 (eleven years ago)

ELP "Still...You Turn Me On". The ellipses alone...PHWOAR!

Acid Hose (Capitaine Jay Vee), Saturday, 10 January 2015 06:22 (eleven years ago)

I'd say the obvious track not yet mentioned is "The Great Gig in the Sky" by Pink Floyd.

I dunno, it sounds sexy but painful at the same kind and not in a good way. I'd rather go with Breathe.

I kinda want to make a joke thread but it's not worth it.

Moka, Saturday, 10 January 2015 09:35 (eleven years ago)

the most horrible thing about love beach is that it's not even the worst elp album.

rushomancy, Saturday, 10 January 2015 13:15 (eleven years ago)

"entre nous" by rush is a 'sexy prog song'

reggie (qualmsley), Saturday, 10 January 2015 16:32 (eleven years ago)

also, "three days" by jane's addiction (subject matter and everything) and "then she did"

reggie (qualmsley), Saturday, 10 January 2015 16:37 (eleven years ago)

What about ELP's b-side "Brain Salad Surgery"? Which is apparently just a blowjob song.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Saturday, 10 January 2015 19:00 (eleven years ago)

^Contraindicated for erotic purposes

^have no problem believing this album has kicked the door wide open for some enterprising young band to attempt a Kajagoogoo/VdGG synthesis

brimstead, Sunday, 11 January 2015 07:11 (eleven years ago)

Is VU prog rock? I always thought "Oh Sweet Nuthin" pretty sexy in a downtrodden sort of way.

nicky lo-fi, Sunday, 11 January 2015 14:59 (eleven years ago)

Jesus Christ, everything gets called prog these days

The World's Strangest Man 2014 (Tom D.), Sunday, 11 January 2015 15:02 (eleven years ago)

Some people want to fill the world with sexy prog songs

never have i been a blue calm sea (collardio gelatinous), Sunday, 11 January 2015 15:14 (eleven years ago)

the most horrible thing about love beach is that it's not even the worst elp album.

if you ignore the cover, the lyrics, and that awful fairlight whistle synth, it's nearly as good as say...Tormato

Abstinence Hawk (frogbs), Sunday, 11 January 2015 15:45 (eleven years ago)

no Fairlights were harmed in the making of "Love Beach".
