what band has degenerated the most? started out phenomenal and turned out incrementally worse music?

daniel, Saturday, 6 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i would say stone roses but their reduction was more cataclysmic than incremental. primal scream have steadily grown more tedious; starting off as a pleasant little pop band then releasing the highly overpraised screamadelica(i like to forget the dreadful second record) then going dreadful again while wearng snakeskin boots, then making some sort of pathetic comeback with vanishing point and finally losing the plot entirely with their take on death metal skree with a eunuch on vocals. verve too, they chose to become oasis instead of pink floyd and well i suppose this made their fall a pretty rapid event, with the awful 'a northern soul' coming after what i thought was a brilliant start with the first record and first three eps. and urban hymns is the most easily forgotten record ever.

oasis are better than pink floyd.

I dunno. I thought the Fugees first album, without the nappy heads remix, was pretty dire. But then again, that last wyclef was ass. utter ass.

but verve did a better pink floyd than oasis.

for the record, fugees ≠ wyclef

oasis are better than pink floyd.

Faint praise, but yeah, I guess.

Wyclef sounds unhinged (his 2nd verse), all paranoid and what not. The addition of John Forte & Omega coupled with the absence of Pras aids too. Lauryn steals it though, one of her better verses imo.

Lol wtf?

Anyway, the Fugees. Where is the love for Blunted on Reality? Which is supposed to suck, but I’m jamming the o.g. “Nappy Heads” right now and digging it quite a bit! “My cousin's name was Shaka, for short we called him 'aka
I flip it on wack MC's because to me they flow like caca” Roffle!

I liked Blunted on Reality at the time. It was extremely silly music and I considered them in the same league as like Fu-Schnickens or Das Efx — solid groups with great production, but not really a lot to say. Just like everyone else, I started taking them a lot more seriously the first time I heard "Fu-Gee-La" and yeah.

I think there's some outstanding beats on that album and the Salaam Remi remix for "Nappy Heads" belongs on any best of 90s hiphop mixtape.
