Listening to more new Incubus at Amazon.Com, I noticed that some other songs on the new album sound a lot like mid period Rush too. That led me to another band -- Coheed and Cambria.

WOW!

Talk about sounding like Rush....

Check out tracks from their latest, In Keeping of Silent Earth: 3 and their last album, Second Stage Turbine Blade.

The guy sounds like Geddy Lee, the bass sounds like Geddy's playing and the guitar and drums sounds just like...Well, it sounds very Rush-like to me.

Uh...even my hardcore Rush-fan friends don't pretend to be excited about "mid-'80s Rush." I mean, "Grace Under Pressure"? "Power Windows"? Urgh.

no way 80s Police-aping pop Rush is good Rush!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 00:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned, that's that shit! That's exactly the era homie. Man, 3 blind mice intros....the Rhythm Method synth drum heroics baby!

The first concert I ever saw was Rush on the Power Windows tour.

Broheems (diamond), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 00:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Wasn't my first, but one of my first was them on the Presto tour...they had these two giant inflated top hats, out of which two giant inflated bunny rabbits appeared.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 00:43 (twenty-two years ago)

my first concert was permanent waves, dude. and they rawked.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 00:49 (twenty-two years ago)

yay Rush...one thing that was cool about Rush up until they messed up the pattern with Different Stages: Live is that they would always release a live album to sum up an era of the band, so to speak....Like all the world's a stage does the early stuff, then Exit Stage Left is the peak commercial/artistic period, then A Show of Hands documents the rest of the 80s more poporiented path...so organized (from a very organized band)

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 00:53 (twenty-two years ago)

i had to beg my dad to take me, but he ended up digging neil. seeing as my pop was a big buddy rich fan.

i confess i stopped listening around the time of Moving Pictures. everything before that is golden to me. but i appreciate some of the latter-day stuff i've heard. all the world's a stage would make my list of fave live albums easy.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 00:55 (twenty-two years ago)

i confess i stopped listening around the time of Moving Pictures.

Um...I like alot of the 80s stuff. esp. Grace Under Pressure and Hold Your Fire, but truth be told you may not be missing much as it is probably hard for me to separate the actual quality of the music from my own nostalgia....

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 00:59 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, i hear you. it's just that when moving pictures came out i had recently bought my first new wave records and it was all downhill from there.

Have fun with the emo geeks!

Jon Williams (ex machina), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 02:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Ahhh Rush. My older brother used to listen to Exit Stage Left Ad Nauseum.

Don't mid 80s Rush sound similar to mid 90s Rush and mid naughties Rush?

I never thought I was capable of feeling such an intense wellspring of hatred for someone based purely on their hairstyle, but this guy (on the far left) has helped me attain that heretofore unimaginable place of seething.

i'm surprised you'd say that Alex (unless i don't really know your musical tastes), but when i first saw that pic, i thought it was King Buzzo

JaXoN (JasonD), Friday, 20 February 2004 05:34 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, and i heard Coheed clips on the aquarius site and they just sounded like crap emo to me

JaXoN (JasonD), Friday, 20 February 2004 05:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Truthfully, I'm not wild about Buzzo's do either, but let's remember, he's in the Melvins, thus he can do pretty much anything he wants with his hair and still be dead cool. Moreover, Coheed fuckin' SUCK, which only compounds my distaste for that guy.

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Friday, 20 February 2004 10:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Seriously, I liked this before, when it was called "Subdivisions."

Coheed & Cambria don't really sound anything like Rush. And they've grown on me, a lot.
