Please, my friends from the online music community, help me. I recorded something very special onto a Maxell minidisc, and while the data is on there it won't play properly.

I really need to get at this data - does anyone, anywhere know of any way to access this data that can't be played, or repair a disc. Or anything?

Thankyou all so much in advarnts.

Oh right yeah - the disc has been recorded on twice and played about 4 times.

Well why didn't I try this in the first place? In a (hopefully) happy footnote to this whole sorry saga, I spoke to a really lovely man named Simon at Maxell - seemingly the only person who works in technical support, but no call centre, no queues, seemed genuinely surprised to have received a phone call at all - and he says if I send him the disc he'll sort it all out, gratis. God bless Maxell.

Incidentally, who was that guy in the Maxell advert in the armchair who gets blown away by the force of rock?

Try it on a different minidisc player. My sisters stereo won't play my minidiscs, but mine will.

I like the Maxwell customer services story. It restores my faith in the corporate world. It's like the old Carlsberg ad.

Incidentally, who was that guy in the Maxell advert in the armchair who gets blown away by the force of rock?

Pete Murphy.

Pete Murphy as in Bauhaus Pete Murphy?

Yes, him.

Mark E - don't be put off too much by this, I've got loads of MDs (some with Special Stuff on - like N. singing "Jack Your Body") which have been recorded, erased, played, overwritten and edited dozens and dozens of times over 5-6 years and perhaps one of them has a playback glitch (a cheap TDK of a design-type I've not seen since and, as ipsofacto says, it's fine on some machines, not on others).

it is Urgent and Key that the data on this disc is recovered, the kids - trust me, I know what's on it...

ipsofacto - that's quite fortunate. I'm sure it would be a lot more annoying if it was the reverse.
