Oh sure, Jagger and the boys have had some classics (personal picks - Rocks Off, Satisfaction, Wild Horses) but have they done anything quite as awesome as "Tell it to Your King" or "Time for Heroes". Face it, in one album and a couple of LPs The Libs leave Jagger and the boys entire back catalogue looking weak...

C-Man (C-Man), Thursday, 19 February 2004 13:36 (twenty-two years ago)

ha ha. i'm going on tour with the libertines. do you want to fap in glasgow???

jimmy the doomed saint, Thursday, 19 February 2004 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

One day I will kill you, Calum. Just by negligence, of course.

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 19 February 2004 13:40 (twenty-two years ago)

so, i take that as a no??

jimmy the doomed saint, Thursday, 19 February 2004 13:40 (twenty-two years ago)

ha ha. he could have met the band and said no! i have a weird new found respect for C_man now.

jimmy the doom saint, Thursday, 19 February 2004 13:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Might do. What's your email?

C-Man (C-Man), Thursday, 19 February 2004 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

andrew see if you can "accidentally" bomb this planned glasgow fap.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 19 February 2004 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I have to leave this gelignite somewhere

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 19 February 2004 13:43 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm not going to give it out on a private forum, dude! if you are at the libertines show in glasgow - i will no doubt be the biggest guy there, hanging with alan mcgee and the band. come up and say hi. it will be weird.

jimmy the doom saint, Thursday, 19 February 2004 13:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Well what's your name and I'll see if I can find you?

C-Man (C-Man), Thursday, 19 February 2004 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

andrew see if you can "accidentally" bomb this planned glasgow fap.
-- strongo hulkington (dubplatestyl...), February 19th, 2004.

Cause strongo no longer fits the weight requirements for the plane, obviously. ha ha.

Nah, i'm easy to find. I'll be hanging out with the band and I will, no doubt be the biggest guy there (as i live in the land of wee people).

jimmy the doom saint, Thursday, 19 February 2004 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Andrew? Have we had a bit of a bumping into one another in times past by any chance?

C-Man (C-Man), Thursday, 19 February 2004 13:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Loads of times.

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 19 February 2004 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

There'll be lots of big lads at the gig... and if you're THAT big do I really want to mess? I'm not going out to be beaten up, in other words...

Otherwise email me, you've no doubt found it somewhere by now...

C-Man (C-Man), Thursday, 19 February 2004 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

ha ha. calum, dude, if you had not made fun of women, overweight people, the working class, etc - you could have hang out with the libertines because of an ilx connection. that must burn.

i can't be arsed beyond the above description. i'll probably be too fucked up with being tired amongst other things to bother about the beating! ha ha. but yeah i'm a very big guy.

jimmy the doom saint, Thursday, 19 February 2004 13:49 (twenty-two years ago)

i look like a bodyguard.

true!

so if you see me, say hi. if not? *shrugs shoulders*

jimmy the doom saint, Thursday, 19 February 2004 13:50 (twenty-two years ago)

"Streak of piss", I heard.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 19 February 2004 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah okay. Dude, I've explained many times - I only posted threads of that type out of (bad?) humour. I'm so nothing like that.

Anyhoo - are The Libertines really ones to judge considering the depravity of the band and the £££ spent on drugs? I find it hard to take any rock band that flaunts their morals seriously because it will always be innately flawed (maybe another thread - but even a band like The Manics ends up looking silly because the more records they want to sell, and the more money they make, the less their anti-capitalist stance looks believable).

But - please let The Libs know they restored my faith in British music and didn't half help to soundtrack the past year of my life. Cheers.

C-Man (C-Man), Thursday, 19 February 2004 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

No one who likes The Pale Fountains that much can throw a punch anyway.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 19 February 2004 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

haha

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 19 February 2004 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

i am just curious as to what a "bodyguard" that "favors the consumptive look" looks like.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 19 February 2004 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

P.S. Check my back posts - what makes you think I'm not working class?

C-Man (C-Man), Thursday, 19 February 2004 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

*shrugs shoulders*

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 19 February 2004 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

ha ha.

"consumptive look" - taking the piss.

bodyguard - more reality-like.

jimmy the doomed saint, Thursday, 19 February 2004 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I dunno mate, bodyguards are usually pretty violently inclined and I'm a pacifist.

C-Man (C-Man), Thursday, 19 February 2004 13:57 (twenty-two years ago)

i want a puppy called nick southall as well! sigh.

well, the last violent act was when i shoved a member of a electro band down a flight of stairs. but he started it and i was very drunk and he was on crack and bugging me.

jimmy the doomed saint, Thursday, 19 February 2004 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

anyways i'll be writing about the band and won't be bothered about you, calum. sorry!

jimmy the doomed saint, Thursday, 19 February 2004 13:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Back to the main question.

The rolling stones are done. They might never make another vital record. But, they have made some great ones and one day I will take the time to (re)investigate further.

The libertines. Just starting. One great album. A single to suggest they are just going to get better.

Cal's right about how rubbish the overstressing of the drink/drugs lifestyle is to the appeal of the band. They are more important than that.

So, one more for the libertines.!.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 19 February 2004 14:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Cool. Well I'll keep an eye out for ya. I'm kinda jealous actually - would like to be in your shoes.

C-Man (C-Man), Thursday, 19 February 2004 14:03 (twenty-two years ago)

That's one circle-jerk I don't wanna see.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 19 February 2004 14:04 (twenty-two years ago)

dude, as long as you don't show a picture of yr teeth, like EVER AGAIN. those brown broken suckas gave me nightmares!!!

jimmy the doomed saint, Thursday, 19 February 2004 14:05 (twenty-two years ago)

eh?

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 19 February 2004 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

i really do shudder at the notion of "the uk music press"

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 19 February 2004 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

sorry weird sense of humour.

though strongo's last post reminded me of that futurama where bender turned human! ha ha.

jimmy the doomed saint, Thursday, 19 February 2004 14:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Let's all shudder together...

"The NME".. 'shudder shudder'
"Q" 'shudder shudder'
"Uncut" 'Ooh Ooh'

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 19 February 2004 14:08 (twenty-two years ago)

HA HA HA!!!

jimmy the doomed saint, Thursday, 19 February 2004 14:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I actually bought nme last week, FWIW.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 19 February 2004 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

("FWIW" = "0", I know)

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 19 February 2004 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Is NME really so bad?

C-Man (C-Man), Thursday, 19 February 2004 14:28 (twenty-two years ago)

The issue I bought was pretty lame, I must admit.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 19 February 2004 14:28 (twenty-two years ago)

There are no words in NME anymore.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 19 February 2004 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

The free CD was alright.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 19 February 2004 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I liked it more when they had Suede in it.

C-Man (C-Man), Thursday, 19 February 2004 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I haven't listened to it yet (I will, and I might do a while-it's-on thread like I did w/thee "bang" magazine one)

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 19 February 2004 14:31 (twenty-two years ago)

by nick's writing - you would expect he buys his adjectives wholesale. ha ha.

norman that would rock. could you do that again? that was very cool.

jimmy the doom saint, Thursday, 19 February 2004 14:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Even if Suede were in it now, the article would end up being one large picture and 50 words, tops...

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 19 February 2004 14:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I certainly don't get my adjectives from the same place as you get your punctuation or critical insi- oh.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 19 February 2004 14:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, but even a pic would've been nice. NME really sunk Suede when they stopped covering them.

C-Man (C-Man), Thursday, 19 February 2004 14:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, maybe there's a point where a band has to leave the NME patronage and stand alone.

Oh god, I am going to have to mention ...

The Darkness did one thing right (and it's a big thing), they bypassed the NME completely. The moon is theirs for the taking...

There. Got away with it.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 19 February 2004 14:39 (twenty-two years ago)

calm down nick-puppy - yer american friends are waking up shortly!

jimmy the doom saint, Thursday, 19 February 2004 14:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Get a job.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 19 February 2004 14:49 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, don't be sad, nick puppy. they are coming soon! let's see a smile - i know you've got one in there!

jimmy the doom saint, Thursday, 19 February 2004 14:56 (twenty-two years ago)
