She's like a German Sam Phillips--acerbic, witty, kinda really
attractive in a stark way. The only album that's really any good is
the City of Strangers album--there's a gorgeous version of Lady's
Who Lunch and a couple of other Sondheim numbers. The Punishing
Kiss shows that Germans just don't have a sense of humour--or the
right kind, anyway. It ranks up there with Annie Sofie Von Otter's
awful Costello collaboration. And ASVO's Weill material is better
than Lemper's any day. On the other hand, I imagine she's probably
really good on Broadway.
