Listening to Husker Du doing "Love is All Around" on headphones .. The last verse has Bob Mould backing vocals where he's just screaming (behind Grant's backing vocals) - but it's mixed really low.

Never heard that before.

What else, recently?

How cool. Must go check that out.

i discovered via the magic of remastering that i dont like the guitar part in "one of us must know (sooner or later)" as much as i had thought

i discovered via the magic of remastering that the tape edits in "good vibrations" are painfully noticeable.

I hate that first one sometimes, right when "I'm picking up good vibrations" comes in. You don't even need a remastered version to hear it. It's pretty bad.

a lot of BB stuff has messy production stuff like that

amateur!st (amateurist), Thursday, 19 February 2004 19:24 (twenty-two years ago)

that's what you get for mixing while tripping.

Smiley Smile is a testament to that.. and is part of the charm of that album.

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 19 February 2004 19:36 (twenty-two years ago)

You guys may not believe this, but a lot of New Zealand artists sometimes *gasp* don't edit out the cassette button start/record and stop clicks at the end of their recordings. Just so you're not horribly disappointed when you get their records.

MY DREAM IS CRUSHED.

What savages.

maypang (maypang), Thursday, 19 February 2004 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

They should be tied down out in the forest and devoured by the kiwis and kakapos.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 19 February 2004 19:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I just noticed Boy George is a play on "By George"! I am dumb.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Thursday, 19 February 2004 19:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I only figured out Yerself is Steam as recently as this year.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 19 February 2004 19:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha - Alex, me too!! I can't believe I went like a decade without noticing the dumb pun.

Broheems (diamond), Thursday, 19 February 2004 19:46 (twenty-two years ago)

cassette buttons? they still use cassettes down there?

(x-post)

fact checking cuz (fcc), Thursday, 19 February 2004 19:47 (twenty-two years ago)

That's a pretty good idea - I usually have to add all those start/stop clicks in ProTools.

At 1:37 in some song by Belle & Sebastian, the drumming really sucks.

I don't know the name of the song, but it's a great song that sounds like Donovan with a bad drum part.

dave225 (Dave225), Friday, 20 February 2004 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I didn't notice the really high pitched waily 'waiting, uh WAI-TING' backing vocals at the end of There There by Radiohead until I put it on headphones. They're the best bit.

ferg (Ferg), Friday, 20 February 2004 20:13 (twenty-two years ago)

wow reading all those Beach Boys "mistakes" makes me like them even more.

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 20 February 2004 20:15 (twenty-two years ago)

It makes me wish I had a better stereo system at home so that I could hear half the stuff that guy's hearing.
