Electrelane equation

Electrelane's playing at Spaceland in LA. I'm looking forward to it but have heard they're boring live. Who do we want to see open to pep up the night, a little? I think Seksu Roba might be nice. I guess it'd have to be a local band.

Thea, Thursday, 19 February 2004 22:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Not the Radar Bros.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:01 (twenty-two years ago)

the mae shi

dean! (deangulberry), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Not the Tyde either.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I guess I should admit that I have something of a vested interest in anyone's answer to this.

Thea, Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a very soft spot for the Bedroom Walls.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I think your email address was the tip off.

The Mae Shi might upstage Electrelane.

dean! (deangulberry), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I love Becky Stark but she's not electric anything.

dean! (deangulberry), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:04 (twenty-two years ago)

All Night Radio? Dntel DJ set? Me dancing to requests?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:04 (twenty-two years ago)

The Like?

Thea, Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:04 (twenty-two years ago)

If All Night Radio is there, I will burn down Spaceland.

dean! (deangulberry), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Dance Disaster Movement (again, upstaging Electrelane)

dean! (deangulberry), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Spencer, by your suggestions I take it you'll be at the ANR record release show tonight?

Thea, Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Spencer DJ set! Actually, fuck that, special direct-from-NYC Net-broadcast DJ set by Ally.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Dance Disaster would upstage. How about "spice up". No one seems to like The Like suggestion or Seksu Roba. Hmm.

Thea, Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:07 (twenty-two years ago)

dean doesn't like All Night Radio? is that a personal issue or a music issue

Thea, Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Another vote from me for the Mae Shi. Try and get the Minibosses (only because I want to see them.)

dean! (deangulberry), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't like ANR. I saw them open for the Shins at the Fonda. The Fonda's terrible sound system aside, I thought it was horrid.

dean! (deangulberry), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, when is this show again?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Poor Fonda. I want to like them as the alternative is Clearchannel's Avalon. shiver

Ned I love the Bedroom Walls but they play every other day. They are friends of yours, yes?

Thea, Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Heh, not close friends or anything but ILX semiregular Lolita Corpus helped introduce me to 'em and they're fine folks. And their live show was much more energetic than I would have expected from the album!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:13 (twenty-two years ago)

It's in April. Still no thoughts on The Like or Seksu...

Thea, Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:14 (twenty-two years ago)

What day in April?

dean! (deangulberry), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah Thea, I'll be there, but mainly just to hang and hear the Dntel set.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Electrelane's playing at Spaceland in LA. I'm looking forward to it but have heard they're boring live. Who do we want to see open to pep up the night, a little?

Totally Radd!!.

Xii (Xii), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:21 (twenty-two years ago)

To be cryptic, as Spaceland hasn't listed the show yet, I think it's on a "good" day.

Thea, Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I take it that totally radd's not a band. So I'm glad you're looking forward to the show.

Thea, Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Oddly enough, Totally Radd is playing with Seksu Roba at the Smell.

dean! (deangulberry), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I lied! It's Bad Dudes and Seksu Roba. I am a liar.

dean! (deangulberry), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Totally Radd is playing at the comic art opening. This is not a lie.

dean! (deangulberry), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Seksu Roba's not an inspired idea but a fair one.

I'm already feeling bored about the show. Ned? Any other thoughts or are you bored too?

Thea, Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, I'm not even sure if I like All Night Radio. The one song on their site is good, but some of my other friends hate them too..

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:31 (twenty-two years ago)

You could always suspend your decision until you see them tonight.

Thea, Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:33 (twenty-two years ago)

No, they're worth hating.

A classic moment at the Fonda show: One song in, ANR begins to think that the recorded tracks from the laptop aren't going out through the soundsystem even though they are. They insist on testing it out before starting another song. He plays the laptop. The audience realizes that while there are two people on stage, the laptop contains 5 or 6 lush parts. It plays and plays. The laptop begins to kick in with a guitar part that shows that the guitarist was barely playing live. The audience realizes this. He realizes that they're onto him. He begins to pretend to strum the guitar to make it seem like he's playing. He finally just turns off the laptop. They play the second song. People leave.

dean! (deangulberry), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Wait a minute, are we all missing the obvious by not suggesting Chaki?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmmm. Interesting suggestion, Ned. I was wondering about Miho, etc as an option.

Thea, Friday, 20 February 2004 00:43 (twenty-two years ago)

dean, that sounds like an amazing conceptual performance actually!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 20 February 2004 00:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't give them too much credit.

dean! (deangulberry), Friday, 20 February 2004 00:49 (twenty-two years ago)

the best band in L.A. = the Movies

angel duster, Friday, 20 February 2004 00:51 (twenty-two years ago)

aren't they playing with ANR tonight?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 20 February 2004 00:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes

Thlea, Friday, 20 February 2004 00:55 (twenty-two years ago)

free show at L'il Temple aka Garage, fyi

Thea, Friday, 20 February 2004 00:57 (twenty-two years ago)

The show was actually *really* good. I'm now a fan of All Night Radio. Jimmy "Dntel" Tamborello played some great stuff and I finally got to hear M83 played loud. Also, that impossibly pretty actress from Gilmore Girls was there.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 20 February 2004 09:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Were any other ilxors there??

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 20 February 2004 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)

You kept the flame alive.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 20 February 2004 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

ANR could use a bass player and some synching help, it's true. And I would have been lynched if I'd stood up and said this after their set, but I found The Like set fairly lame.

Thea, Friday, 20 February 2004 19:57 (twenty-two years ago)

You were there? and you didn't say hi!?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 20 February 2004 20:08 (twenty-two years ago)

????

I looked for someone with a "Hi, I'm Spencer Chow!" button but it was too dark to read them.

Thea, Friday, 20 February 2004 20:10 (twenty-two years ago)

haha, kidding. My mug is all over ILE though. I was hanging behind the decks with Jimmy T between the ANR and the Movies sets. He even put me in charge while he went to the toilettes.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 20 February 2004 20:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Next time I'll wear a poinsettia in my buttonhole.

Thea, Friday, 20 February 2004 20:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Should we just go ahead and have a Stereolab FAP in OC at the end of March like we were sort of planning to anyway?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 20 February 2004 20:56 (twenty-two years ago)

What about the KUCI vs KCRW softball match? Actually, we're more of a footie lot...maybe an FAP is safer.

Thea, Friday, 20 February 2004 21:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Wise.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 20 February 2004 21:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry, I don't do softball - only biathalon.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 20 February 2004 21:14 (twenty-two years ago)

So. What does one wear to meet a guru of radical subjectivistism?

Thea, Friday, 20 February 2004 21:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Whatever you see fit. (does that make sense? it's a stretch I know).

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 20 February 2004 21:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Strange talk, this.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 20 February 2004 21:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe I'll "re-hash" an outfit from a previous Stereolab show and "synthesize" it into something more fashion-forward.

Thea, Friday, 20 February 2004 21:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Into the future!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 20 February 2004 21:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Hurray!!!! To the future! (clink glasses)

Thea, Friday, 20 February 2004 21:31 (twenty-two years ago)
