Or this. The single not the cover.
There may have been a similar thread at one point, but did it have that Picture? Huh?

Got any examples that make you say, "what were you thinking?"

Speedy Gonzalas (Speedy Gonzalas), Friday, 20 February 2004 06:36 (twenty-two years ago)

First examples that come to mind...

Having started off as cool, understated bohemes with a fixation with Warhol, the `Pistols and Bowie's Low, they somehow morphed into a soulless, overproduced yawn-enducer wearing Judas Priest's hand-me-downs. Tragic.

The Village People's New Romantic period is well known, but less well known, perhaps, is the image with which they experimented some four years later:

Hahahahahaha

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 20 February 2004 06:42 (twenty-two years ago)

As far as that first picture's concerned, they couldn't look any more on track to me. Plus, it's Queen. What would anyone've expected them to do?

maypang (maypang), Friday, 20 February 2004 06:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Judas Priest - without Rob Halford, they looked pretty straight...

I agree. Queen kinda rocked right up to the end, barring some unfortunate production missteps.

The best example I can think of:

maypang (maypang), Friday, 20 February 2004 06:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Except for Hey Little Tomboy. That song's brilliant.

maypang (maypang), Friday, 20 February 2004 06:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, Queen was always theatrical, but, c'mon, look at John there. JUST LOOK AT HIM! I used to look a the pics on the first album,
http://www.screensavershot.com/music/queen.jpg
and just so dig them. I really doubt I would have felt that way about this ibandhttp://www.queenzone.com/multimedia/pictures/images/Queen/161020039505.jpg

Sorry

Speedy Gonzalas (Speedy Gonzalas), Friday, 20 February 2004 07:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey Alex in NYC, you have to admit some of the late Psychedelic Furs was cool, like "Until She Comes".

daavid (daavid), Friday, 20 February 2004 20:48 (twenty-two years ago)

When was Martin Short in Queen?

dave225 (Dave225), Friday, 20 February 2004 20:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey Alex in NYC, you have to admit some of the late Psychedelic Furs was cool, like "Until She Comes".

Well, they did regain their footing somewhat, but you can't go home again, y'know what I mean? Killing Joke suffered the same fate circa Brighter Than a Thousand Suns through Outside the Gate, when they tried to be something they weren't.....and ended up looking like this...

These were dark days indeed. Like the `Furs, they rediscovered their true mission (or, some might say, slunk back to more familiar turf), but the damage was done.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 20 February 2004 22:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow - that's living in the 80's.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 20 February 2004 22:49 (twenty-two years ago)

How did a once great band get so far off track?

They matured.

christhamrin (christhamrin), Friday, 20 February 2004 22:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, prior to that, they looked generally more this this....

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 20 February 2004 22:53 (twenty-two years ago)

hahaha my girlfriend's then-band toured with the Psychedelic Furs around the Mars-Williams-on-sax-and-chaps era.

hstencil, Friday, 20 February 2004 23:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Who was your girlfriend's band, Stence?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 21 February 2004 01:37 (twenty-two years ago)

That first picture of Killing Joke is hillarious!

I like the second one more.

I still can't believe Outside the Gates and Brighter than a Thousand Suns.

I do however have a Brighter than a Thousand Suns poster.

Aja (aja), Saturday, 21 February 2004 01:43 (twenty-two years ago)

What about Van Halen?

Who was the last front man they had?

Aja (aja), Saturday, 21 February 2004 01:58 (twenty-two years ago)

That first Queen picture makes them look like the Legion of Doom.

dean! (deangulberry), Saturday, 21 February 2004 02:07 (twenty-two years ago)

It's funny!

Brian May has that serious / going to burst out laughing if you don't hurry up and take the picture look on his face.

Aja (aja), Saturday, 21 February 2004 02:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Freddie is way too stiff!

latebloomer (latebloomer), Saturday, 21 February 2004 02:27 (twenty-two years ago)

That's just awful!

Aja (aja), Saturday, 21 February 2004 02:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Yep.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Saturday, 21 February 2004 02:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Wait.

Who is that?

Aja (aja), Saturday, 21 February 2004 02:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Metallica. Or rather, a band that is calling itself Metallica.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Saturday, 21 February 2004 02:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Thought so, but then I had doubts.

I don't know what else to say.

It's just so...

Aja (aja), Saturday, 21 February 2004 02:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Unspeakably hideous?

latebloomer (latebloomer), Saturday, 21 February 2004 02:35 (twenty-two years ago)

YESSS!!!

Thankyou!!!!!

OTM!!!

OTM!!!!

Aja (aja), Saturday, 21 February 2004 02:42 (twenty-two years ago)

"Metallica. Or rather, a band that is calling itself Metallica."

They look like they are tailgating before a football game or some fans getting wasted in the parking lot before going to see Metallica.

earlnash, Saturday, 21 February 2004 04:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Exactly, that's what's so disturbing about it.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Saturday, 21 February 2004 04:49 (twenty-two years ago)

OMIGOD, look at how SCRAWNY Lars Ulrich is! Even I could probably beat him up, and that's just something that shouldn't happen.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Saturday, 21 February 2004 04:51 (twenty-two years ago)

RIADERS!!

Matalica jerseys

Aja (aja), Saturday, 21 February 2004 04:52 (twenty-two years ago)

If my upper body looked like his, I'd keep my shirt on.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 21 February 2004 04:53 (twenty-two years ago)

You take you're shirt off?

Gezz. I thought it was cold in NYC at this time of the year?

Aja (aja), Saturday, 21 February 2004 04:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Aja, you know how I feel about overreactions! *BLAM BLAM BLAM*

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Saturday, 21 February 2004 04:56 (twenty-two years ago)

x-post

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Saturday, 21 February 2004 04:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, I don't.

Aja (aja), Saturday, 21 February 2004 04:56 (twenty-two years ago)
