What's your favourite brand of mediocre?

Much is said about the fantastic and the terrible around these parts, but I feel the middle ground has come to be neglected somewhat. Celebrate the average by talking about what you personally find...just so-so. And why.

The type of opening band playing quietly enough that you can have a reasonable conversation over.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 20 February 2004 21:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I like the solid but unexciting kind of mediocre, the kind that generally comes from an artist probably overextending themselves a little too far.

A recent example would be the meh-inducing Twista album.

now I'm gonna go home and listen to that.

My Huckleberry Friend (Horace Mann), Friday, 20 February 2004 21:52 (twenty-two years ago)

well, I have to wait for the fax repairman to come before I can go home, but the Twista album is sitting there, waiting for me in it's failed glory.

My Huckleberry Friend (Horace Mann), Friday, 20 February 2004 21:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Music that would otherwise probably be far more interesting/exciting had you not heard the style a gazillion trillion times prior.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 20 February 2004 21:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I know the diff between it's and its. I just choose to ignore it sometimes because I'm a radical.

My Huckleberry Friend (Horace Mann), Friday, 20 February 2004 21:53 (twenty-two years ago)

generic downtempo stuff makes good reading/fall asleep music

Hebrew National...decent and easier to find than Nathan's but without that inspiring "pop" when you bite into it.

I recently went to an April-March show. She sounded like a second-rate Boradcast.

daavid (daavid), Friday, 20 February 2004 22:08 (twenty-two years ago)

David Gray and Gray Davis - separated at birth?

Etta, Friday, 20 February 2004 22:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I will respond to this after I balance my checkbook, iron my socks and listen to a few telemarketers sell me car insurance.

Thea, Friday, 20 February 2004 22:16 (twenty-two years ago)

bad current folk music is often mediocre. not horrible or anything, just many shades of grey. it's not my favorite brand though. my favorite brand might be 4 hour comps of mediocre dance music. i can listen to it, but it leaves no impression.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 20 February 2004 22:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Light, harmless, indie dance-pop like The Other Two and Dubstar.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Friday, 20 February 2004 22:28 (twenty-two years ago)

There's an extremely palatable compilation of Latin-tinged jazziness that drifts along into slightly more uptempo Latin-tinged hip-hop-inesss that has to found its way into the cd player at smallish, less-memorable bbq/dinners that I have had. I am not surprised that I can't recall its title. I'm sure "dulce" is in there, somewhere.
