Am I to understand this ad correctly? For $99, you can get a lifetime subscription to Rolling Stone? What's the catch here?

The catch is that since they make money from advertising, not cover price, they need your eyeballs more than your crummy pocket change.

Here, search ebay for subscriptions and you won't pay more than $1/year.

After all, you might live 99 years, but Jann Wenner probably won't.

one month passes...
Can you cancel it?

In a few years I might have kids, and by then every cover will just be a photo of some starlet's gaping vagina. And, like, I'd like them to learn about sex the old fashioned way, through innuendo.

99 Bucks! Y'all are a bunch of chumps-- just wait 'till the next economic bust. After the dot com bubble burst, I got an in the mail offer for a 50 year sub for 50 bucks. hard to turn that one down, so I didn't.

five years pass...

I just noticed that Rolling Stone has finally put up a site-wide paywall, which is a shame because for years, you could access nearly every single feature/article, interview and review they've ever published, which made it a very handy (and free) resource.

i remember being excited when i realized that there were a bunch of lester bangs reviews on rolling stone's website that had never been collected. not very long afterward i concluded that there was a reason it hadn't been collected.
