...unless someone tells me where to start w/Scott Walker. I heart "Tilt", but now there's this BOX SET and it turns out he had a VARIETY SHOW! he seemed so sensitive? how do I begin to listen to the man, the myth etc?

3 is pretty damn sweet. There's also a pretty good overview, It's Raining Today, which cherrypicks the first four albums plus a couple of further bits and pieces.

The comp Boy Child is great too - but it only has Scott's own tunes, so you don't get any of the Brel stuff

El Diablo to thread.

No way would I start with Tilt, either, if you're used it the Bac-style stuff. It'll blow your ears clean off your head. Isn't there some best-of on Rhino called man/boy or something equally silly?

I'll chime in and say Scott 4 is my favorite, but all of the first four are worthy. Once I got one of them, I knew I had to have them all.

another vote for the very well done it's raining today comp. i got that first, couldn't connect with it, put it away, returned to it maybe a year later and felt my jaw drop to the floor. within minutes i ran out and bought 1, 2, 3 and 4, of which i like 2 and 3 the best. but if i had started with one of the proper albums instead of the comp, i think i would've had an even harder time "getting" it.
