Exactly.

it has to do with a story about a flyer for an early show erroneously billing them as the Placemats, don't it?

Al (sitcom), Sunday, 22 February 2004 21:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Its as embrassing to say aloud as the Weddoes.

Another urban legend, me thinks. It came (apparently) from drunk fans slurring the band name 'til it sounded like 'Placemats'.

it's all true. I say Mats cause I'm (wicked and I'm) LAZY

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Monday, 23 February 2004 01:17 (twenty-two years ago)

dude you're so missing out.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 23 February 2004 01:18 (twenty-two years ago)

it's somewhere between what Francis and Anthony said. They were never billed as the Placemats, although that story has been passed around. (They became the Replacements after playing only one gig billed as "The Impediments"; the show got them banished from playing that venue ever again, so that's how they got to be the Replacements.)

Kinda like calling a guy Henry, "Hank".

eighteen years pass...

Bob Mehr did a podcast reviewing all of their releases. (This is part one of two).

Entertaining, and apparently when they recorded Let It Be (one of my favorite albums by anyone), everyone in the band was living with their parents. Puts a lot of things in perspective - imagine making an album of that stature and you couldn't afford to live on your own.
